Groups I Belong ToCouch Information
Couch Available: Definitely! Preferred Gender: Any Max Surfers Per Night: 10
Shared Sleeping Surface: Depends Shared Room: DependsDepending on the numbers of people visiting our place you will have your privacy or not. It's however more likely to share the room than to share a bed. Only in very crowded situations there might be a chance that you have to share a bed, or in case you are a couple you can decide to sleep on the same airbed or something. In any case you feel uncomfortable with a situation, just let us know, but I don't think it will happen :)
I live in a Couchsurfing Palace with 3 others:
Lukasz Podsiedlik
Irene Melega
Jip Ketel
Our "Palace" is a 4-bedroom apartment just outside the Center of Dublin in an area named Smithfield. We have a huge living room and two couches available, one 2-seater and one 3-seather. There is plenty of room for airbeds and sleeping bags to host more guests, just make sure you bring your own sleeping equipment. Smoking is prohibited in the house, however we have a huge balcony accessible from the living room with a nice view over Smithfield, which you can use to smoke a cigarette if needed.
I love to spend time with my guests and I will do whatever I can to spend as much time with you besides going to work. Showing people around is something I'd like to do, but also simply enjoying the rich Dublin night life and going to Couchsurfing meetings is for sure going to happen when you stay at our place.
I'm a night person and I'd like to stay up late. However, I do have a full time job, which limits the amount of time I can stay awake from time to time. There's always my flatmates that might still be able to entertain you when I would go for asleep though, of course depending on their schedules as well.
We prefer guests to stay at least two days, so we can get to know you a bit during your stay. Guests that want to stay only for one night can better look for another host, although we do make some exceptions from time to time. Besides that we have not really any limitations in the duration of your stay. As long as we all are happy, comfortable and safe with your company than there should be no issue. However in the very unusual situation that it turns out that we aren't able to get along pretty well, we will have the right to end your stay with us.
You will be able to use all facilities in the house without any problem, just handle everything with care and keep the house clean. In case you use something, it's appreciated if you clean it yourself, or put it back at the place where you got it from.
As our house is located just outside the city center it's easily reached by public transport. When coming from the airport you can take a bus into town and when you are there you are just a few tram stops away from our home. It's about a 20 minute walk from O'Connell's Bridge. More details according directions to our place will be sent to you by email after we agree that you can stay with us.
The maximum number of people is set at 10, but that doesn't mean we will be able to host that many people every day. Actually that number of guests will only be reached at special occasions.
When willing to stay at our place, please use the couch request button. Don't send in cut and paste requests, but personalize your message and clarify why you would like to stay in our place. Please make sure your profile it filled in. If my profile was empty you would not send a request, same for me if yours is empty, we will not host you. You don't need to have any friends or references, just a filled in profile and a nicely written request will normally do the job.
If you are travelling with someone who does not have a CS profile. Please provide us their full names, make sure you can include at least a picture of this person and tell us something about him/her/them. Visible Facebook accounts will also help.

Personal Description
Hi, my name is Frank. I was born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and lived there until I was 18. After that I moved to Ridderkerk, a smaller village directly bordering the Rotterdam neighbourhood I used to live in. Both my parents are Dutch and from Rotterdam as well. I have also a sister who is three years younger than me. As of late September 2009 I'm living in Dublin, Ireland where I found a new job.
In my free time I'd like to hang out with my friends. I'd like to visit a pub or club or to see a movie in the cinema. Of course there are quite some CS meetings among them. I also can party all night long and I love to do and to watch sports. I like to watch pretty much every sport there is, either on television or in real life. The Olympics can give me total enjoyment as well as other huge events like the European and World Championships in football (soccer). The performances of sporters, the progress they are making throughout the years, the strength and motivation in their faces while participating, the excitement in their faces when they win, and the sadness in their faces when they lose totally fascinate me.
Apart from all the watching I also like to do sports myself a lot. I have been doing many different sports since I was a little kid like: korfball, tennis, cycling, athletics, swimming and of course football. Right now I still cycle a lot and my activity passion right now is badminton which I practice for 6 years now. Besides that I also have my own pool table (a smaller one though and unfortunately I couldn't bring it with me to Ireland) and I like to play poker and darts for instance.
Sports are great as they unite people, sports bring people together and sports forces people to get to their ultimate goal in life. Sports are not just very important for me, but in my opinion they are important for everyone.
Since 2006 I'm really into photography and my goal is to become better in that and keep improving my skills. I mainly focus on festivals and events, but I basically photograph pretty much everything. I have my own website, but this is currently still under construction. I'm making some money out of it, so I guess I'm doing fine, but of course it could be improved.
I've traveled quite a lot already, but there's still so much more to see, what makes me think I will never finish travelling.
How I Participate in CS- I host a lot of people
- I have surfed quite some couches
- I organize meetings
- I attend other meetings
- I have made a lot of friendsCouchSurfing ExperienceHere is a list of my experiences since I joined CS (most recent on top). For more details and information I suggest you to check my friends, references and vouches. So far I hosted 212 people, a dog and a cat. I surfed 29 couches with a total of 74 nights. Apart from that I met hundreds of people during travelling or at meetings.

[---MEETINGS---]
Interests
As I'm totally crazy about travelling and meeting new people over and over again I joined this website with enthousiasm. However it took me about a year to take the step and became finally active as a member. Since then I have been hosting a lot of people and I have attended quite some meetings in several countries. When I travel myself it depends on my company if I will use CS or not, but I can tell you that I'm now totally addicted.
I have offered a place to sleep to anyone who was willing to travel to The Netherlands and Rotterdam in particular. I didn't mind having five to ten people over at my place at the same time as long as they didn't mind sleeping at the floor. Besides all this I also organized quite some meetings, mainly in the Rotterdam area.
In Dublin I was unable to host people for the first couple of months, but I managed to organize some meetings and attend another bunch of them. Now me and my friends have created a Couchsurfing friendly house we are hosting a lot again.
PhilosophyLife should be fun for everyone! I try to make the best out of my life by making fun myself but also trying to help others out as much as possible. I'm a very open and loyal person and I can get along with almost everbody. Couchsurfing offers me the perfect solution to enjoy my own life even more and make the life of others more enjoyable at the same time.Music, Movies, Books
I like all kind of movies and from 2007 to September 2009 I had a membership with my local cinema in Rotterdam, so I had unlimited access to see the movies for a reasonable fee. Before that I actually hardly ever visited the cinema, nor did I watch a lot of movies, but since then I went at least four times in a month.
I also like almost all kinds of music, although all types of music do have their likes and dislikes. I am not a fan of any band or artist in particular, but there are some that have quite a large number of songs that I like. I'm currently working on my own Youtube music database. It's far from finished as I actually just started it and I don't put that much time in it right now. Any additional ideas (oldies or new songs) are always appreciated.
Types of People I enjoyI enjoy happy, funny and open minded people who think they are a little bit crazy in the good part of the word. People who are willing to learn every day and who also like to make lots of fun. It's a good thing if they share the same interests as I do, like those already described above. Humour is an important thing in my opinion. Basically I can hang out with pretty much everybody.Teach, Learn, Share
I can tell you a lot about The Netherlands and Rotterdam in particular. I created my very own city tour when I lived there and it was probably better than any other city tour you can find in Rotterdam. I showed many CS'ers around doing this tour. I start to get to know Dublin pretty well by now and I believe I can give you some nice tour around the city and/or I can give you some tips instead. When I have couchsurfers coming over I try to make as much time available for them as possible as to me the main thing about CS is to get to know each other instead of being a free hostel. Those that don't like company during their stay should probably go and visit someone else.
I'm trying to know and learn about almost everything in life. You can talk to me about anything and we might be teaching each other quite something. I love to learn basics from a different language and I'd like to become better and better in photography, so if you are with me and you do have any tips you better tell me instead of keeping your mouth shut :)
One Amazing Thing I've Seen or Done
I have been on quite some cruises and I still think that's a wonderful way of travelling. I've been visiting the UEFA Euro 2000 and the FIFA World Cup 2006 as big football tournaments, but I was also at the 2002 UEFA Champions League final in Glasgow. I had the time of my life during the Euro 2008 football Championships in Switzerland and Austria where I met tons of amazing people using Couchsurfing. Now I took the step to start up a new life in Ireland and I'm very excited about that. I can continue this with probably many other amazing things I've seen so far, but I probably can tell you more of this in private. I'm interested in travelling all over the world. I would like to see all interesting stuff, although I know it will never happen to see all of what is out there to see. I also really do enjoy events like parades or sports competitions which I do love to cover with my camera.
Opinion on the CouchSurfing.org ProjectCS ROCKS !!! It totally changed my life in such a small time. I joined this in August 2006 when I was a little bit sceptic about it all. As a result it took me a year to start becoming active, but when I became active I was overwhelmed by enthousiasm and excitement. I felt settled and welcome from the start, I attended meetings and I started hosting people from all over the world. As a surfer I visited the Euro 2008 football championships in Switzerland and Austria. Something that I couldn't have done without CS. I had a super time in those countries and made many new friends.
This is a list of countries where my Couchsurfers came from. It also contains the number of surfers that visited me from that country.

Frank was one of the first people from Dublin CS I met... being yet in Moscow and still looking for a shared accomodation for a few months! Well, finally we lived in different places, I had my Palace and Frank's got his. :)

From NORIENORA Linz, Austria Aug 2, 2009 Positive Well, first of all I am so so sorry that it took me such a long time to write you back.
So what to say about the days you hosted us?
It all started with the spontaneous idea of four friends and a few days later we sat on Franks couch…so he hosted us really, really short-dated. And he even hosted us one day before our appointed arrival, because there were some problems with our other host.
So Frank introduced us to the CS life as he also took us with him to the weekly CS meeting in Rotterdam which was absolutely great! But he also introduced us to the Dutch lifestyle in some ways as we ate bitterballen, VLA (you have to try it, the best pudding we ever ate!!), pannekoeken (I can recommend those with “kersen met slagroom”, yummy), listened to Dutch songs and learned some Dutch words and tongue-twisters. He guided us through Rotterdam, Kinderdijk and Ridderkerk, so he showed us the Nederlands apart from Amsterdam, which was really interesting ;)
Well Frank, thanks a lot!
Best wishes
From Ari Einbinder West Hempstead, United States Aug 1, 2009 Positive My friend Zvi told me, "If you're in Rotterdam, I met this really cool guy you gotta meet." In the end we ran into eachother accidentally at a CS meeting =)

From Kilian Grau Zurich, Switzerland Oct 26, 2008 Positive Frank is great, he was very helpful about the trip of me and thomas.I tried to surf his couch, but his place was starting to be to crowded. From Jacob Winter Moscow, Russia Oct 11, 2008 Positive Frank is in love with couchsurfing as well as meeting people; obviously a strong point. The last I knew of he was going to host over ten people after I left, and was willing to do so comfortably. Although I wish I had known more about football to discuss with him, he was ridiculously accommodating. He made me feel at home the whole time I was there, and hopefully he'll make it to wherever I am so I can reciprocate. Come meet up with Frank; he'll show you a good time.
From Teodora Lascu Bucharest, Romania Oct 11, 2008 Positive Frank's house is a collector's paradise. If you ever go there, and I highly recommend you to, you'll know what I mean. From Dule Misevic Paris, France Jul 16, 2008 Positive Frank spend some time in Switzerland during the Euro Cup 2008, representing Netherlands in the best possible (and very orange) way. Being a part-time, temporary Dutch fan for the Euro, I certainly appreciated the support. ;-) We had a chance to hang out many times, watch several games together, and consume multiple tasty beers. Because of him, I've also gotten a chance to be a paparazzi for an hour or so, using his nice camera with a looooong zoom lens and taking some fun photos of the "Team Swiss" - "Everyone Else" game at the Bern CS meeting. Hope Frank visits again sometime or we get a chance to meet up elsewhere in the near future. All the best, it's been fun!

From Adam Nagy Vienna, Austria Jul 12, 2008 Positive Meet this guy if you have a chance: you will enjoy his company. He has a good sense of international humour. I met Frank when he stopped by in Vienna, surfing Isabella's couch. We had a short but great time, going from one bar to another with a bunch of other couchsurfers during the Euro Cup. That's how football and Couchsurfing bring cool people together !! :-) Welcome back in Vienna, anytime !

Glad to see I hadn't met everyone just yet, because it's always good to see a new (fro me anyway) face pop up!
From Michael and Yvette Afanasyev Rotterdam, Netherlands Jul 10, 2008 Positive We met quite accidentally in Basel during the Euro 2008. Was quite funny 'cos he indeed requested to surf my couch some time before but I was unable to host then. We spent a maaaaaad day in Basel, going through all possible mental states together, from hope to despair. We were in good company though and that's comforting.
From Nicolas Alexandre Bérard-Nault Montreal, Canada Jul 10, 2008 Positive I met Frank during the CS meeting in Bern in June 2008. He is a very open and nice guy to talk to and I defenitely hope to meet him again when I go to the Netherlands !

As tall as Dutchies come, he is hard to overlook and boasts with energy and humor. You absolutely will have a great time whether you surf him, host him or just meet him for a drink. Most likely beer. Very very easy and uncomplicated socially. I only can be positive. Meet him!
From Simone Brogli Basel, Switzerland Jun 26, 2008 Positive First of all: Actually this one was an EXTREMELY positive one...!
The hardest part of having Frank as our guest was to say him goodbye. During the time he stayed at our place in some way Frank became a part of the family. We spent a lot of time together - not only partying in the fan-areas, which it was all about actually (and man - I`ll never forget....-)) we had also a trip to Germany, visited a castle and took a LOT of pictures. Thank you for putting all these files on our computer! All in all this was not just any cs-experience, it was THE experience!
This guy is honest, openhearted, outgoing, with a very good humor (yes I know you`re stupid, man), the best man for talking and partying! If you`ll ever have the chance to meet him - do it!
Frank, hopefully things will be just fine for you in the future and you can cope with your emotions concerning your friend Mark.
OF COURSE we`re gonna meet again, in the south, in the north or in the middle...
All the best for you......

Frank is super friendly and an extremely kind person. He is well traveled and interesting to talk to. Frank is a great photographer and is always trying to get 'the perfect picture'. I am eagerly waiting to see all of his pictures; and I'm sure they are great. Next time I am in the Netherlands I will be sure to stop in Rotterdam to surf with Frank!
From MOTHERANDSON Bern, Switzerland Jun 18, 2008 Positive Frank was a very nice and uncomplicate guest. Because he came for our CSBerne-weekend during EuroSoccer08 the host-experience was a bit different (we were most of the time in a group of people) but my son, me and our cat enjoyed his company.

I also liked a lot that we spent the night in the same room chatting for hours ...
I only managed to come back to R'dam 7 months later (after trying to invite him to my place) ... and I again found him impressingly sensitive, caring, helping, hospitable as well as modest, a good listener ... what can I say about this fellow? Frank set me off on the right foot by being my very first couch surfing host, I couldn't have hoped for a better host!
He was kind enough to pick my cousin and I up in Amsterdam, a few hours trip from where he lives in Rotterdam. We spent a day in Amsterdam and the next day in Rotterdam. It was great to have a local show us around, and also recommend the good snacks! We had a "Mejicano" snack...well, it wasn't very Mexican, but it was good! Hahaha.
Frank was very very nice to us, taking us places and telling us stories of his soccer team Feyonoord! (Wuuu!! Go Feyonoord!). We had a lot of time to talk and I feel I really got to know him. I definitely had a positive experience, and would love to one day get to host him!
Frank, come visit anytime!
See you in South Africa!
From Anne-Wil Hop Rotterdam, Netherlands Jan 17, 2008 Positive Frank responded with enthusiasm on my proposal to go hitching to Paris for NYE, so I suspected he would be a cool guy. And he turned out to be so, when I met him some weeks later on Rainey's birthday party. (Obviously the hitch did not go through in the end)
Hope to see you again! I know I will.
From Jason Buranen Bloomington, United States Jan 14, 2008 Positive Frank and I surfed in Rotterdam for NYE 2008.
