I live in the western part of Groningen, 15 minutes walk from the center (5 minutes by bike!).
There is a bus stop just in front of my house with a direct bus to and from the train station (10 minutes).

The house is quite big, but I prefer not to have many people at the same time. The couch is quite comfortable and can host 2 persons, it is in a separate bedroom. I can provide also blankets, but it is fine if you want to use your sleeping bag.

I am home usually after 7pm, so it is better for me to host during weekends when I have more time to show you around the beautiful city of Groningen.

Personal Description


Speaking about me??? That's difficult.
I'm discovering myself day after day after day...
I am a very active person. I cannot stay in the same place too long ...I mean real places or "places(?)" in my mind...
My name is Giuseppe, I'm Italian but I lived and traveled in a lot of places, mainly all around Europe but also in the US, Australia and now back to Europe (Netherlands).
After that ...who knows!???

I love cooking... italian pasta, of course! ehehehe .... but also spanish, thai, japanese, ethiopian...
I love traveling, meeting people, knowing cultures and speaking other languages...
I love life, universe and everything!
I hate boredom!
I like to know new people and have a lot of fun. What I really love is to have fun in all the possible ways. Fun can come with humour, cooking, a glass of wine together, a funny chat, good company, music, books, movies...

CouchSurfing Experience


Once upon a time in Bologna, I was bored and melting at the hot air of that city. I decided to hitchhike and spend a few days in Paris.
I ended teasing a friend who believed that I was arrested at the France border without valid documents. So he organised a rescue trip with another friend to save me from the French police and from unfriendly (or maybe too friendly) truck drivers.
We arrived in Paris just with a telephone number of a friend of a friend. This person was not there, she was in Portugal. But a friend of her (I love this friendly world!) was house-sitting her place.
We spent 3 days there. We cooked for her and her boyfriend while they show us the coolest areas of Paris.

Wow, Gius and Jurgita are wonderful. They were my guests at the Sinterklaas meeting, for which I was so busy organizing that I was barely able to host them properly.. Still the short moments we did share were nice, and made me feel very warm inside (ouch, sounds almost a bit too cheezy :)

Giuseppe... :) a very warm person with beautiful smile and smiling eyes :) He surprised me with the awesome gift - the little sugar packs that I collect, even though we hadn’t met before :) It’s soooooo sooooo nice of you Gius!
We had a great time at the concert, and later tasting the Klaipeda’s famous cheese fingers :) a nice dinner at Jurgita’s where Alina and I prepared the sort of Italian food but not in the right Italian way but Giuseppe was not afraid to try it and I think he even liked it :) And of course it included great conversations and a couple games of Jenga :)

Everytime I met guispe I was greeted with a friendly smile and an invitation to join him in something - juggling, frizbee, fortune telling, star-gazing etc! I've met Giuseppe aka Pikkio some years ago when I was attending my Erasmus exchange year in Bonn, Germany. I invited him to many parties and he explained me the basics of astronomy. I knew he was an amb here in CS but the surprise was to meet him in Milan during MI too celebrations!!Dancing together was like going back at those wonderful times! Come back again!

I had a lovely time hosting Gius. He is not your typical geek! He's a lot of fun to hang out with, a great partner to sing cheesy Italian love songs with, and didn't even disown me when I tried to boss him around in the kitchen, where he prepared a fantastic new creation: risotto alla Brie -- no thanks to my "help"! Giuseppe is one of the nicest guys you could meet. He kindly hosted us in his small tent at the Berlin Beach camp where we seemed to become instand friends and then again at his lovely appartment in Groningen. I really loved spending time with him talking, juggling and trying to solve some of the crazy puzzles he collects. Luckily Giuseppe managed to be in Riga in the most perfect time ever- for Latvian Song and Dance festival held in Latvia every 4 years. Giuseppe is so easy - not afraid to try any of strange Latvian food and drinks, perfeclty manages to dance Latvian folk dances and prepares heavenly delicious risotto. Guiseppe is a really funny guy and always ready to help someone (e.g. to find an emergency couch in Riga for me). We had such a lot of fun in Klaipeda, and he is a real good cook (he cooked for 5 persons real italian pasta - hmmm). His card tricks are so clever that you nearly believe in magic. Just a wonderful CSer! Giuseppe surfed my couch for two nights and we spent three evenings together with other CSers making Italian pasta, exploring Klaipeda's old town mysterious places and having fun at a jazz club. On CS I met scientist who is familiar with my work. Giuseppe is extremely intelligent, polite, reasonable, attentive, helpful, and pretty quiet person. It was so nice to have him around (he even made some really good dinner (yummy!) at my place) :) We shared nice talks, good company, very relaxing walks along the beach & some crazy dream-whispering moments in the old town of Klaipeda! He surfed my mattress (couch was occupied by Roland and Barbara) only for two hours, because we had so much to talk about :)

If I was a sun, Giuseppe was without any doubt our southern star, always guiding us in this strange "land" that was the berlin beach camp. He is an extremly interesting and cultivated man, full of generosity and positive attitude! Giuseppe was super nice with me during the camp. During the entire Friday I had the pleasure to wear his sun protection hat... although he could have very well used it himself, while we were all suffering under a burning sun. So thanks mate, I reckon you saved my neck from serious brandings.

I know Giuseppe for the last 9 months or so and we both live in the same city 'Groningen'. By nature, he is very kind and caring and always ready to help person in need. We strangely ended up meeting each other and surfed one night at another couchsurfer after a big CS MEETING in Stockholm, Sweden. We talked a lot and discuss other sensitive issues. I still have to know him better and that is why we will see each other soon. Ohh and also hope to see you around Puerto Rico!

After some (funny) communications through e-mail, Gius and I finally met at the CS meeting in Stockholm. He's full of positive energy and always in for a good laugh. He actually drove his car from Holland to Sweden to be at the meeting. Thanks for being there, Gius. I hope to see you again!

Best milkshakes and italian food, ever!!! Gius, mon sicilen préféré, is the best couchsurfing host I ever met. He invited me and my cousin on Christmas 2005, and let us feel very confortable at his place and in his country of adoption, Tasmania. I loved his way of life and thinking positive. He showed us Hobart and around, even the telescope he worked with. He cooked delicious italian pasta and gnocchis (I learn how to cook them!), and did the best milkshakes I ever tasted. Gius should be a CS ambassador, cause he is so devoted to his CS duty!

Giuseppe and I meet quite regularly in HC meet-ups, and at work. He has this "Italian" cordiality - a witty guy with a "take-it-easy" attitude. We have traveled together. It was good to talk about his experiences in Tasmania. And we are in the same profession - Astronomy.

Che un ouva buona! (is that good italian?). He was my first guest and we got along so well. I think I had more fun than he did! We both share a passion for good food and had lots of fun cooking, eating & travelling.

He is a great & trustworthy guy. Host him/stay with him and you're in for a treat.

I reckon Giuseppe rocks. Gius is a great guy, so nice, and has a cute house overlooking the bay in beautiful Hobart. He showed me the local pubs, market and cooked some lovely Italian food. A truly local experience and a great host!

Thanks! Guis & his lovely girlfriend are great hosts - they showed us around Hobart, taking us for a real Hobart fish & chips meal and then to a local pub for some good music and better beer. He's a great guy with a fascinating job and definitely worth catching up with in Hobart (or whatever city he makes it onto next).

Great food, wine, and company! Giuseppe was a fantastic host. I spent almost an entire week in Tasmania, and, I confess, I learned more about Italian cooking than I expected! Thank goodness we shared a love for seafood and great food; otherwise, I would have missed that fantastic meal on the bay.

A gentleman with personality! Gius is such a great guy! We both live in Hobart so haven't couch-surfed with each other but he'd be welcome to stay at my house ANY time! He probably even cooks better than I do. Gius is highly trustworthy, very giving, interesting and interested. Just love him!
