Couch Information
Couch Available: Maybe Preferred Gender: Any Max Surfers Per Night: 3
Shared Sleeping Surface: Depends Shared Room: DependsThere's a couch in the living room for the die-hard couchsurfers. It's pretty big and comfortable. For those of you who prefer that silly thing called "a bed" there's a loft bed (see couch picture) hidden away in the spare room and there are some mattresses we can basically put anywhere in the appartment (close to the beer, underneath the living fridge, next to the loveable couch,... you name it, a couchsurfer has slept there already). Where you sleep will also depend on our working schedule (spare room = work room) and on how many people are already staying here.
Bringing your sleeping bag is generally appreciated. We have a spare blanket in case you couldn't squeeze it into the overstuffed backpack anymore.
I live together with my girlfriend.. If you want to stay with us, please send your request to only one of us!
about Antwerp
Antwerp is a great city. Here are some keywords: one of the worlds most creative cities (newsweek) with a broad array of music, art, fashion and design, one of the worlds largest harbours, world centre of the diamond trade, cross-road of cultures, clubs, pubs, shopping, restaurants, amazing architecture, an overrated zoo and the obligatory selection of finest Belgian beers ...
Cogels-Osylei is a must for anyone with a sense for architecture. This is what the guide-book has to say about it: An incredible mixture of architectural styles unfolds itself before the eyes of the visitor. Nowhere else can such a panoply of neo-styles be admired (or ridiculed, according to some)... Good bars and restaurants, as well as fast-food from all corners of the world is available nearby.

One Amazing Thing I've Seen or Done--ABC-trekking in Nepal, then invite all people in the hotel to have a good Belgian BBQ, being drunk and ignore the curfew just because it felt so good. Leaving the next morning with a terrible hangover to Tsitwuan National Reserve (?) and driving on the worst road in the world, bumping your head against the car and regretting you did drink that last beer-- Sunset and Northern Light at Stamsund Youth Hostel on the Lofoten Islands eating fish caught in the ocean while sitting in a wooden rowing boat.
-- Sitting on a mountain in Sweden, 100km above polar circle and decide to go and smoke a cigar on the San-Marco square in Venice and actualy doing it (72h non-stop train, and 2h in Venice, sigar was bad but it just felt great standing there)---

What do these numbers mean?
This summary is not a replacement for reading references; it's a quick summary to help you get started. At a glance, you can see how many references a member has, and how many of them are positive, neutral, and negative.
In the second line, you'll see how many references came from people who hosted this member, surfed with them, and traveled with them. These numbers won't always add up to the total: some references are not categorized, and some may be categorized as more than one thing.
When viewing this summary, don't jump to conclusions! Things that are negative for one person may be positive for another, and vice versa. It's important to read references carefully and evaluate what that information means to you. References (152)147Positive 5Neutral 0Negative

From CHRISTIAN_MONTREAL Montreal, Canada Oct 19, 2011 Positive Stijn is a fun guy. Always a smile or a laugh at the ready. He always makes sure everyone has fun, he is layed-back but self-assured and confident. Nice conversations, good energy. Hope to see you again buddy.
From ANDREW & BECKY 2.0 Portland, United States Oct 19, 2011 Positive Ahh, for the love of Belgian beer. It was great to meet Stijn, who is a fine ambassador for his local brews. We really had a blast sampling beers with Stijn and Diana at their home, a local pub, and the Kulminator. He is such an easy going, well traveled, good living kind of guy... we really do hope to catch up again one day whether in Belgium or stateside. Thanks for everything!
From Stephanie Bastek Silver Spring, United States Oct 18, 2011 Positive Stijn and Diana were my first couchsurfing hosts ever, and what hosts they were! The weekend my friend and I spent with them in Antwerp was the best introduction to the city and to this community that I ever could have asked for. Stijn knows an incredible amount about Belgium's favorite thirst quenchers--I think I tried more varieties of beer and jenever this weekend than I have in my entire life! He and Diana were the perfect hosts and made us feel right at home, whether over a few (or more!) drinks in a bar or a lekker breakfast spread at home. Their love for Antwerp is infectious, and has definitely made me consider moving here. Thanks so much for hosting me, and I hope we meet again!
From RATTENFREUND Vienna, Austria Feb 1, 2010 Positive Me and my cousin stayed at Stijn and his girlfriend Diana´s place, were they live together. He was funny and told us many interessting things about Belgian beer. Although we did not like usual beer that much and prefered KRIEK, Belgian flavoured beer, we had a great time together in this Antwerp bar. Thanks a lot!!!!!
From Claudia Walouch Vienna, Austria Jan 24, 2010 Positive Together with my cousin I stayed at the flat of Stijn and his girlfriend Diana in Antwerp. We enjoyed our stay there and it was nice to hear some couchsurfing stories and to get an introduction into belgium beer. Thank you.
From Samantha Smith Vancouver, Canada Jan 19, 2010 Positive I had a great stay with Stijn and Diana. They´re a really laid back couple, very welcoming and interesting and great to share a couple drinks with and talk about the world. Even though they were busy with life and work, they made a real effort to spend time with me and get to know me, and just in general make my stay a comfortable and special one. Thanks for all the maps and tips and sharing your insanely thorough knowledge of Belgium with me. Antwerp certainly wouldn´t have been the same without you guys! Come to Vancouver!!
From Becks Y67 Strasbourg, France Dec 2, 2009 Positive Guess what Stijn (pronounced Stan ) was doing
when we met at 2009 Sinterklaas in the Netherlands ?
Smiling with his big bright smile and sparkling eyes
happyly holding a blond belgian ... beer ... of course ;P !!
You can seriously ( & less seriously )
talk with him about many things,
but the belgian way ;)
If you like beer,
you'll like this worldwide known beer scientist
& if you do not like beer like me
you'll find out he's very friendly, sociable, funny,
open-minded, smart, easy-going & cool guy.
You'd probably like to meet him again.
& if you party together,
live him some time
to warm up his "diesel" engine,
once he has warmed up,
he'll keep on going
when almost everybody has stopped ;D
Keep cool & fresh like a belgian beer,
rolling & smiling Stan (written Stijn) ;)) !!
A bientôt j'espère ;)
From Amit Evron Maceio, Brazil Sep 11, 2009 Positive I enjoyed hosting Stijn and hearing his tales about the old days of Couchsurfing. And if you want any information about Belgian beers he is the right man to talk to!
From MACNAPIER Philadelphia, United States Aug 18, 2009 Positive We just had a great time hosting Stijn. He enjoys a good meal and a drink, can look after himself, and is an independent guest. He isn't scared to grab a map and hit the street in search of whatever....Stijn makes great company. You can just kick back, relax and let him tell you some stories. He is a very respectful and trustworthy surfer that I would welcome back anytime. Many thanks for the yummy treats and beer you left for us! Hope to see you soon in Brugge and/or Antwerpen. Dank u well!
From NICE FAMILY OF 2+3 Aachen, Germany Aug 13, 2009 Positive Stijn is very funny and easy going in his overall way of beeing! It is nice and always something to laugh to be with him and his girlfriend Diana. He has a strong sense of humor espcially when working with screw drivers on an Ikea wardrobe!
