Short term requests are most welcome!
just give me a call 60 minutes before you arrive in Regensburg and the thing will work out fine!
It's a huge couch in the centre of one of Germany's oldest towns, the picturesque and beautiful Regensburg (Ratisbona), 2 bus stations away from the central bus/train station, next to the Danube (Donau) river, next to the UNESCO world cultural heritage The Stonern Bridge - and about 50m away from the Dom, a huge ~400 years old cathedral
Why?
Regensburg is an awesome beautiful student city, also called "the northernmost city of Italy" due to the lively places and streets with lovely outdoor cafes during summer, as well as the large number of Italian-style medieval merchant houses and towers. Culture? Party? Nature? Chill out? People? Whatever you like :) The invaluable luck during the WWII (manymany bombs missed the old part) kept the medieval city centre excellently preserved, so walking through the atmosphere of the old centre with all the houses from decades ago is just amazing - even after living there for years.
Who?
Me and my flatmates - two alternative, open-minded, easy going individuals. We have a active life in our flat, so you will never get bored and have social life even when you're at home :) My life's schedule is crazy, so there's always plenty of time for anything: coffee/tea, showing you around, traveling in the surrounding area, whatever, here is bunch of stuff to do and enjoy around!
Couch?
Two to offer, one expandable sleeping one in the living room and a 3x2 meters one in my room. Smoking is okay at the window, roof or balcony.
What?
Relax!
- on my roof :)
- Jahninsel, a next-door park-island in the Danube!
- along river Danube's watersides
- in an outside cafe on one of the many small squares
- at the Surer See lake in summertime
Take a view!
- The Stonern Bridge (anno 1146, 0.5 min walk)
- Dom Regensburg Cathedral (anno 1634, 2 min walk)
- nearly any house has it's own history, take a walk!
- or a small guided tour in a boat on the Danube
Get some food/supplies!
- just next door: the Wurstkuchl, thought to be the oldest fast food restaurant of the world, is serving traditional Bavarian food like Sauerkraut with sausages aso. :)
- great food is made in a small cafe across the street
- 2 supermarkets in short distance (~4 min walk)
- the whole city is packed with a superb variety of places to eat for any price and taste, so you won't starve ;)
Enjoy bars/clubs/events!
- one of many beer gardens
- Filmbühne (alternative!)
- Leerer Beutel (regensburg jazz club)
- Banane (rock, alternative)
- Suite15 (club)
- Rauschgold (club)
- many many more, will show you my favorite places if you like to!
Regenburg itself has a comprehensive public bus network with frequently running buses until around midnight every day.
Bus lines 1, 2, 4, 6, 11, 12, 13 and 17 are stopping nearby, but if you like it more the easy way it shouldn't be a problem to pick you up at the main train/bus station. Regensburg itself is easiest reachable by train and just a few cat jumps away from Munich and Nürnberg.
What do you get?
Couch, blankets/sleeping bag, towel, internet, fully equipped kitchen, washing machine, easy going time, information about anything you need or want to know, welcoming local beer if you drink - juice if not :)
What do I get?
Pretty simple: CouchRequest over CS - that's it!
Rules?
Hm,... Personally I really don't like rules at all.
Behave like a guest or friend, clean after yourself (otherwise my flatmates will be angryangry with me) and give me a small clue that it's not a mass-request - eh, and please fill out your profile at least a bit or a bit more if it'll be your first CouchSurfing experience!
How many days?
Let's start at a max of ~3 nights, but there should be no problem for extending after you arrived and everyone is happy

I'm kind of cocktail of energy and good mood by nature, best served chilled, but mixable at every temperature at any place.. :)
Knowing the way and going the way is different like apples and pears - so I keep going, walking, jumping, strolling, hiking, running, sailing, swimming, exploring, discovering, diving, flying, bouncing to just whatever plopps up in my mind as an idea!
I love the social way, connecting with people which are around, avoiding to live planed or being serious all the time - more freestyle spontaneous and freely enjoying libertine the moment and upcoming unknown tomorrow, with music, rhythm, flow. Like to think and express with an objective and subjective view at the same time, give a sh▒t on prejustices and create my own picture of situations, people and the world, enjoying the small things life offers everywhere and every when.
How I Participate in CS
As I'm very bad in settling somewhere for long, CS is my beloved way to explore the world, its places, its people - so I'm participating as an active CouchSurfer and host!
And by realizing ideas and concepts by moving bytes and thoughts around with an amazing team as a full time CS tech guy
CouchSurfing Experience
Many many individual, crazy, great people and good friends, a huge sum of amazing experiences from the range of A to Z and back again, absolutely funky times! - can't imagine traveling without CS anymore. So.. in short:
... a lot :) loving it!
Hosted surfers in Regensburg/Ratisbona and Melbourne, surfed in and through the Iran, Columbia, Serbia, Georgia, Montenegro, Taiwan, Nepal, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iceland, Armenia, Canada, New Zealand, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Czech, Hungary, Austria, Greece, a tent in the rain forest and a balcony at rain, a squatted supermarket and a supermarket's owner's couch, love to join and organize meetings in the places I travel through to connect the amazing rich amount of most different people of CS in the spot - to enrich their and my own travel experiences by mixing up this brilliant characters behind the profiles here!
Interests
- throwing paper planes from high buildings
- rain puddle dancing
- to answer "why?" with "why not?!"
- balancing on every curb
- climbing up the rocks
- celebrating the being and freedom
- hitchhiking from A to C to B to D to C to A to Z!
- freezing the moment in pictures - the local way:
the local way with people, cultures and individuals is my strong focus - without a Lonely Planet and checklisting photos of sights or must-sees, more by connecting and exchanging with the people who live in the micro cosmos I just took a first step in.
Philosophy
live and let live!
as well as
singing in the rain
just singing in the rain
what a glorious feeling
and a lot more!
Music, Movies, Books
Spreaded like nutella:
Music is the oil in my life's engine, keeps it running smoothly and energetic.
Ska, Alternative&Indie, Ragga/Dancehall, songs with jazzy fuzzy unusable un-boring elements, a bit electro and fat freddy's drop's sound
Creating music together is like a master key for communication if there is no common language to speak - Sooo, some space in my backpack will ever be reserved for a Melodica, a ukulele, a nose trompet, a harmonica, couple of kazoos, a triangle, some percussion gadgets and a Loop Machine to combine and loop it all on the fly - so, hey! let's meet! let's jam!
movies I would recommend:
L'Animateur (short movie), The Visitor, Everything Gets Illuminated, The Coporation, Memento, V like Vendetta, Lammbok ... and generally movies that are not predictable: moved picture's art, ones that screw around with your what-will-happen-next story throughlook :)
Types of People I enjoy
Humans themselves - but mainly open-minded, individual, unconventional, self-determinated, happy and optimistic ones, that say what they think, not what they believe they have to say. Just be yourself and the thing will work out fine!
Teach, Learn, Share
Could teach you how to create sounds with a Melodica or piano - and all about the fancy dread lock creating and caring stuff! Taught my North Korean military guides how to beat box and to play the harmonica and kazoo, maybe you gonna enjoy it like them ;)
Food + Wine - sounds fine! Always open to learn more, so let's cook together! Also I'm trying to pick up some phrases in all kind of languages, so feel free to speak your own.
And with words, ideas, music, beer, time, there's a lot to share
One Amazing Thing I've Seen or Done
traveled through 52 states (23%), so much more to go!
My personal hall of fame of the time on the road:
Conquered Singapore on its untouristy CS paths and the to be hitchhiked roads in Australia with the little big sunshine Natalia, hitchhiked with Josh from Germany to the Iran and back from Turkey to Germany with a crew of 3 randomly met amazing Danish ones, became an Aussie as flatmate in Craig's flat, traveled for 30 months and ongoing alone and with some amazing persons I met on the way through world's culture jungles jumping from country to country, culture to culture, couch to couch - and will surely keep bouncing forever :)
Some of the lucky times while hitchhiking:
A German civil police unit checked me standing at the exit of a petrol station. After un-and-repacking my complete backpack and pocket contents, they excused for the dreads+hitchhiking=drugs stereo type they had and drove away. 1 hour later, me still trying to get away from there, they returned and offered me a 60km lift to the next bigger petrol station with the deal to communicate that "The Bavarian police is not as evil as we all think!" :)
Raining. Dark night. 2am. Standing at a Turkish petrol station in the nowhere with the 1900km away destination Georgia. After dancing one hour in the rain to try the luck with one of the few cars passing by, a guy in a brand new Mercedes stopped. His destination: Azerbeijan, distance: 2500km. 24 hours and 1900km later I left the car again - next to Georgia's border!
Coincidences everywhere, love 'em! :)
- Lost my camera in Malaysia and got it back in Hong Kong
- Randomly met again.. a girl I jammed with before in Iceland in the streets of Beijing, my Great Wall companion in suburban Thailand, an old mate from home on the road while hitchhiking in Australia, my old neighbor on the road while hitchhiking in Switzerland,
party mate from a small city in New Zealand in Bangkok, the girl I carried the bags for in Bangkok again in Vienna, the girlfriend of a good friend in Hong Kong 2 years before I met him in Istanbul.
Almost all of the things I experienced with all the fabulous people I met through CouchSurfing on the most various spots on this planet were just amazing, so stop reading, stand up and try it on your own!
Opinion on the CouchSurfing.org Project
The spirit of CS matches well with my general idea about the all-together - the world contents an overwhelming amount of individuals, socializing and exchanging, defining the cultural future by mixing and living it in the present time.
This summary is not a replacement for reading references; it's a quick summary to help you get started. At a glance, you can see how many references a member has, and how many of them are positive, neutral, and negative.
In the second line, you'll see how many references came from people who hosted this member, surfed with them, and traveled with them. These numbers won't always add up to the total: some references are not categorized, and some may be categorized as more than one thing.
When viewing this summary, don't jump to conclusions! Things that are negative for one person may be positive for another, and vice versa. It's important to read references carefully and evaluate what that information means to you.

Mike is genuinely one of the most positive people I've ever met, always smiling and happy with a good word to say about everyone, having worked with him intensely over the last few months I can only say good words back at him!
Apart from being a great guy (and from what I can gather from some of our meetings a talented musician as well) he has also an incredibly quick mind and bright mind - sometimes it frightens me how fast he can code a new feature for the site. Can't wait to meet him in person and get to know him even better...
Michi is the energizer bunny of happiness on overdrive. There are certain people that bring a room alive when they walk in to it and Michi is one of those people. He has ruined the reputation of computer nerds around the world by actually being able to have a normal conversations that regular people can understand. He has made it difficult for the rest of us computer nerds but still we love him. Hope to see you soon!!!
Mike surfing with you was awesome! Not only have you opened my eyes to some of the best Bavarian beers, but because of you I have found some of the best places to eat and chill in Regensburg.... but most importantly from you I have discovered Cobb, my new favourite game. Long live Team Canada!
Thank you so much for all your hospitality, it was so great to get to know you and all your friends especially Betty- I am so pumped to see the videos from the birthday!
Hope to see you again some time soon, when you come to Canada, I expect to see you on my doorstep. Cheers!
I hosted Michael when my house conditions were not really good but even for that he was really respectful,he gives positive energy for the people around him.
He helped me when i didnt had any plan. And its was a great, fucking amazing experience (good surprise when you don't know where you go)
Thank you to have been welcoming to me.
Mike has such a great energy you simply cannot be in a bad mood when he's around. Always smiling, laughing, talking even though you spend 7 hours in a truck or standing on the road with your thumb out.
And as a host; amazing! Great apartment, great friend, great city, great host! So welcoming and he took very good care of us. If you ever come to Regensburg look him up:)
Mike is sooooo positive and happy and smiling all the time... no serious, really, all the time!! He is so open to everybody and extremely good at meeting and talking with new people. We hitchhiked together from Istanbul to Regensburg in Germany and surfed his couch there for a few nights! Awesome time indeed!! And hey! I kicked his ass in a drinkingcompetition! ;) Hopefully we will see eachother again soon :)
