I think hospitality exchange is the best way to get to know other people. Even in your own country you can easily find the people with the same interest on this website. I met lots of different people from different countries. All those people give some you some knowlegde about the world. And that's the place were you live, so that can be usefull ;)
I think CouchSurfing and Hospitality Club have changed my life and that from others, both in a good way.
