Sorry! The CS website is temporary unavailable

We apologize for the inconvenience this temporary outage has caused you. We're working hard to get the website online as soon as possible and to minimize down-time in the future.

What happened the stranded travelers page?

This page has been removed to protect member privacy and safety. While the page has been used with the best of intentions, it previously contained private member phone numbers, emails, and addresses that were publicly viewable on the web. To protect your privacy and safety, we encourage members not to give out their private contact information except to friends. We encourage your to always send and receive messages through the CouchSurfing messaging system until you're ready to host or surf with the other member. This protects your private contact info, and if were to ever receive an unwanted messages from another member, the CouchSurfing Member Disputes & Safety Team would be able to take appropriate action.

Safe Surfing Tips:

  1. Always have a backup plan in case you can't connect with your CouchSurfing host. Try to arrange a back-up host if you can. Some city Ambassadors are able to help stranded travelers. Carry enough cash to pay for a night at a hostel if you have to, and carry the address and phone number of nearby hostels.
  2. Write down your host's email address and phone number before you leave home. That way, if you temporarily cannot access your CS inbox, you'll still be able to contact your host.
  3. Whenever possible, send messages through the CS messaging system.

I'm stranded, what should I do?

  1. Usually the website is only down for a few minutes. Please check again in an hour.
  2. If you can't check back later and have no way to reach your host, call a friend and asking them to check the site for you, then call you with the info you need.
