Gisborne

Gisborne is located on the far east coast of the North Island. To the south is the wine region of Napier and Hastings. Furthur north is the region known as East Cape. This is where the famous New Zealand movie "Whale Rider" was filmed. This area has alot of Maori (indigenous New Zealanders) buildings and community houses. These are called Marae and are still the centre of a town's life. Gisborne is great in the summer with plenty of surf beaches and relaxing opportunities, compared with other beaches closer to main centres.
