Using same usernames

  • Don't mix usernames
  • At later point: very good spam prevention

Better idea, OpenID is more general, Wikitravel and LiveJournal are using it, Wikipedia will.

Localization

The user's default language should be taken into account when fetching information from Wikitravel (which is available in a dozen other languages).

Other sources

World66

  • World66 is probably going to be merging into Wikitravel

Platial

  • What is it?
  • Does it use a free license?
  • API?

Anchors for quick links to different sections

It's useful to have a link to quickly reach the different sections, for example the portion of the wiki page that is extracted from "Hitchhiking Wiki". A possible solution is that the first line is simply a list of links to the sections, such as

Info from <CouchSurfing Wiki> | <WikiTravel Wiki> | <Hitchhiking Wiki>

The links are simply links to anchors in the text.

Just implemented this, and committed it into Subversion. Remove this section when it's up and running. Guaka 04:14, 19 September 2006 (EST)

URLs of the aggregated pages

The URL from which the information is collected should be made visible. In this way, it can become more clear, also to users who are not aware of what Wikis are, what this information is. Having a link means also that it is easier to edit the page directly on Wikitravel for example by simply clicking on the link.

So instead of

Wikitravel

It becomes

Wikitravel: information fetched from http://wikitravel.org/en/Rome, you can edit this page directly on WikiTravel

Bugs, little thingies

  • pngs are served as jpg
  • Different text in case an article doesn't exist

Versioning

Create an /id for CS article for every page that will be used, which will contain the ID of the version that is considered good for couchsurfing.com. Check for instance Frequently Asked Questions/id for CS. The ID can be found in the history of a page.

Testing with CouchSurfing Guide intro.
