KlagenfurtThe statements and opinions on this page are solely those of its authors and do not necessarily represent the official position of CouchSurfing International.
In June 2008 Klagenfurt will also be one of the host cities of the European Football Championship. There is also a Couchsurfing meeting set up, to meet with your fellow football enthusiasts.
Getting thereBy Plane: Klagenfurt has an airport that is not very far outside of the center. About 10 minutes with the bus or taxi. According to the website you can get to Klagenfurt from London (STA), Cologne, Vienna, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Hannover, Munich. By Train: Check out the ÖBB homepage and the online connection search. There is the main station ("Hauptbahnhof") and the Klagenfurt-Lend station, which is a bit closer to the Wörthersee but it is not recommended to exit here if you don't know what you're doing. The city center is about a 10 minute walk from the station and there are very frequent busses to the main bus station. Bus to Klagenfurt: Postbus - Route planner and timetable booklet Getting aroundPublic Transport (Stadtwerke) Bus: Stadtwerke (STW). Regular intervalls for the larger town area. No english version available: www.stw.at - road map and schedules, www.stw.at - online information, doesn't always seem to work.. Hotline: +43 (0) 463-521-542 Mo-Fr 06:30 - 14:30
You can go around the city center very easily because it is not that big. To get to the lake, the bus is recommended as it is about 5km away from the core.
Getting around with the car is a good option because not every part is well connected with the bus. There is public parking available where you have to pay from 7am to 5pm and outside of the city center it is free. A few large parking spaces are located at Minimundus which is close to the Europapark and Wörthersee. The Wörthersee itself has a lot of parking space available. OrientationKlagenfurt highlight map is a google map in the process of growing, with locations from going out to historical sights, built up by couch surfers.
TipsPlaces to eatGoing outMeetingsMeetings at this point are not regularly and more on a "depends on our mood" basis, but this is probably going to change. If you're around and want to meet, post it to the Klagenfurt group, the Carinthia group (which is bigger and more active) or message Kwentin. The Klagenfurt group is still growing but closely watched by some, so reaction times should be OK if you plan on coming or want to go for a drink or anything else!
Last minute emergency couchesWe all know there are times when it's too late for sending regular couch requests, be it because you can't reach your host, or because you had to change plans, or whatever. Sending a mail with all your contact data, CS username and arrival/departure date and time to csemergency (at) eloquentin (dot) net with high priority (this is important!) will reach Kwentin who will try to help you out. Please only use this in real emergencies, in case there is no other chance to find a host, and if you need a place to stay right now, not next week. Please be aware that there is no guarantee that anyone will actually be able to host you. Good Luck! GuidesTriviaPerception of the Cityarticle history edit | |||||||||||||||||||||
