Rafting is a perfect mode of travel to combine with CouchSurfing. Some things might be useful to keep in mind though:

It saves on transport costs - kayaks can be expensive to rent.
There may be sharks in the water! You can check on this by dipping two fingers in the water and then tasting them. If they're salty, there are sharks!
Take enough water. If the shark test came up positive, you can't drink the stuff you're floating on.
