Tips

  • All cabs / taxi in Bucharest are yellow! the price per km are written on sides of the car and

inside on the countor! usually the price is made of a starting fee ~2 LEI / RON + price per km is ~1.8 LEI or RON.

Romanian currency - LEU (pl. LEI), fractional coin - BAN (pl. BANI).

As of 1 July 2005, Romania's legal tender, previously coded as ROL, has been redenominated so that ROL 10,000 are exchanged for 1 new leu (RON). The old Leu was legal tender until end-December 2006.

Coins and notes in circulation

  • Do not use private taxis, prices are higher and they can cheat very bad!
  • Exchange rates are very bad in touristic areas and airports! Pay attention to not have comission from the amount used!
  • Inside train stations / buses stations or airports prices for food / drinks are higher than usual! Better buy from markets close to those areas!
