Transportation
Stuttgart features a multitude of public transportation means:
- S-Bahn (timetable via VVS site)
- U-Bahn (timetable via VVS site)
- Strassenbahn, ceased service in december 2007
- Busses (timetable via VVS site)
- Bike by Call-A-Bike, a service by the Deutsche Bahn (germain rails), you'll need a mobile to use this service!
By these means you are able to reach quite a location in Stuttgart and surroundings by day.
By night there are night buses (straight forwardly called "Nachtbusse") on Friday night at 0111am, 0222am and 0333am from station "Schloßplatz" in the city center.
There's always the chance to take a Taxi. Taxis are quite safe and drivers aren't expected to trick on you, but just talk to them about your plans, ask for costs and watch the meter (as usual, anyway..).

Hitchhiking
Accomodation
Priority is most probably to find a couch to surf on. But, as a general safety rule, you should always be able to have enough financial spirit to backup in a hotel, hostel or similar. Intentionally, it is adventure you are seeking. That could mean that a couch gets lost or none is available.
