Wiki spam

Wiki spam is a tiny, but annoying problem.

There are several things we can do about it.

When you see a page that has been spammed it should be cleaned up immediately. If the page has no previous history it should be deleted. If you cannot delete the page or do not feel comfortable editing out the spam simply paste {{spam}} at the top of the page and it will be cleaned up immediately.

Content based

Kasper added this to LocalSettings.php:

# If this Regular expression matches the text of an edit, then the edit is disallowed.
$wgSpamRegex = "some regexp";

Open proxies

Open proxies are now blocked from editing pages, see Proxy blocking

SpamBlacklist

We should probably also install the SpamBlacklist extension.

Protection Bot

We could use an automated program like ProtectionBot or Shadowbot to protect against spam. and a Protection templates to prevent the few pages which are vandalised.
