Werewolf Nights ViennaWhat are Group guidelines?
Group guidelines are a list of things that this group has agreed to and uses as guidance in operation. At a quick glance, everyone can see what rules a group functions by.

|"Werewolf," also known as "Mafia," is a party game. It's played in a large group of 10-18ppl and there is one moderator. |
The rules may sound complicated, but in fact it's pretty easy to play. There are two phases: a night phase and a day phase. Everybody gets a role: "Werewolf" or "Citizen" - Nearly every night/day someone drops out of the game, either by being "killed" by the werewolves or by the citizens (see rules for details). The goal of the citizen: kill all werewolves. The goal of the werewolf: kill all the citizens.
One game lasts about 30 minutes and we play several of them.

The whole game is moderated. There are two phases in this game: A day and a night phase. The goal: As a normal citizen, you have to kill all the werewolves. As a werewolf you have to kill all of the citizens! Simple, isn’t it?
The moderator will hand out cards. Your role will be assigned by the card – DO NOT SHOW YOUR CARD!
There are several roles:
• Normal citizen
DAY: Doesn’t have any special attributes. You can only act during the day phase by discussing a victim and vote
NIGHT: You have to sleep; you are not allowed to do anything at night!
Is elected in the first round. His/her vote counts twice. If he/she dies, the major can pass his role to someone else, before he/she dies.
The Major is an addition to ANY other role (The major could also be a werewolf.)
DAY: Acts like a normal citizen, but knows of course who the other werewolves are!
NIGHT: At night they are awake while everyone else is sleeping. They have to pick a victim by pointing on someone. They have to find a majority. They should try to be quiet.
• The Girl
DAY: Like a normal citizen, but probably knows who’s a werewolf. Should try to kill the werewolves with her knowledge
NIGHT: Is allowed to open her eyes a bit in secret, when werewolves are awake. Careful! Werewolves shouldn’t notice it!
DAY: This person is like a normal citizen, but probably knows who’s a werewolf. She should try to kill the werewolves with her knowledge.
NIGHT: Will be awake before the werewolves wake up. Can point to someone. The moderator will raise his thumb, if the person is a werewolf.
DAY: Like a normal citizen
NIGHT: Wakes up, after the werewolves fall asleep again. The witch has only one healing potion and only one poison potion! The moderator asks if she wants to use the healing potion for the victim of the werewolf. After that the witch can use the poison potion, to kill someone.
Note: The witch can use the potions only once. The moderator will still ask, even when they are already used. If the healing potion is used, the moderator will point to the person who has been healed.
If the poison is used, this person the witch pointed to will be killed immediately.
DAY: Acts like a normal citizen
NIGHT: Only in the first night, he can decide who the “loving” couple is. He can pick also himself/herself
• The loving couple
The moderator will poke two persons in the first night, to tell them, that you are the loving couple. The couple could even be a werewolf and a citizen. They wake up in the first night to recognize each other. They should try to protect each other, because if one of them dies, the other dies as well.
The game starts with the night.
Unfortunately someone dies in the first round already, without even playing – Take it easy!
People have to elect a major. The moderator will help to do so.
1) Amor wakes up, before everyone else does. He picks two persons as the loving couple. He falls asleep again
2) The moderator will wake up the loving couple --> The loving couple has to find each other --> They fall asleep again.
1) Seer wakes up --> Seer points to someone --> moderator shows yes/no --> seer falls asleep
2) Werewolves wake up --> They have to find each other --> Have to find a majority by pointing to a victim --> werewolves fall asleep
The girl can try to spot the werewolves during this phase, but doesn’t act in general.
3) Witch wakes up --> After being ask “Do you want to use your healing potion”, decides to use it or not (if yes, the moderator show’s who has supposed to being killed) --> After being ask “Do you want to use your poison potion”, decides to use it or not
1) Everyone wakes up
2) Moderator tells who has been killed
3) People have time to discuss
4) When the moderator starts to count down to zero, everyone has to point to someone IMMEDIATELY (DO NOT HISITATE!)
5) The person with the most fingers pointing to him, will be killed (Note that the major has two votes)
6) The person who has been killed shows his/her card.
7) Everyone falls asleep again (Night begins)
If someone is dead, he/she has to be quiet during the whole game. No hints, not a single word can be spoken! If the killed person was the major, there has to be another election in the next round.

|If you want to organize a game, feel free - Simply drop me (DominikTouring) a message and will figure it out (appointment, cards, rules etc. - I can send you two pdf documents that explain the rules/cards) :-)|
Here are a few things you need to organize a Werewolf night:
- Werewolf cards
We usally play with the "official" cards: "Werewölfe von Düsterwald" or in English: "The Werewolves of Miller Hollow". If you play with different cards, which is okay of course, please make sure that they are easy to understand, as sometimes people are not sure which role they are playing and this messes up a whole game.
In winter time:
Try to find a location where 10-20 people can sit in a round. All of them should be able to see each other. The place should be really quite. This is necessary, otherwise the citizen don't have a chance to hear, who is making a noise during the night time
In summer time:
It's always nice to play outside, this can be in a park, danube island or in a garden. Make sure that your players take blankets with them and something to wear when it get's chilly.
This is critical! You need to have at least 10 people excluding the moderator and max 20 people. WARNING: Usually MORE people show up, than signing up - that's a couchsurfing effect!!!
Try to find "gamers", not "chatters". If not, you'll end up having a group that wants to play and another one that doesn't, which is tricky because it can disturb the game play a lot.
This is critical as well. You have to find a good moderator, otherwise the game really sucks. He/She shouldn't do any mistakes like unintendly tell details of werewolves, seer etc..
The moderator should always change his/her position during the night phase and always talk in different directions, so that the ppl can't tell, to whom he is speaking
- Date & Time
Set the meeting at 7pm. You should be able to start the first game at 7:30pm, because many ppl show up too late. They have to wait for the next game, they can't join a running game. We usually play on week days, because most of the people are on parties anways on weekends etc., but of course if you manage to get enough people on a weekend, why not?
- Meeting & Messages
We play once a month. That's so far the best period for playing it. We tried to do it twice a month, but only a few ppl showed up. Make sure that you post your message to the "Werewolf Nights Vienna" AND the "Vienna - Wien - Vienne - Bec - Vieden" group and set up a meeting on the Event section.
I highly recommend NOT to post the address, propably only the district or the next subway station. Send out the details only via private message.
People should bring their own drinks & food, so write that in the message as well. In the meeting message include that this game is for "gamers only", otherwise you'll end up having people they want to chat/drink/get wasted, which disturbs the game a lot.
Post the message max four days in advance, to keep the head count bellow 20.
