Foz do Iguaçu

Details

People who come to Foz do Iguaçu look for two special points: Iguaçu Falls, of course, and the Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant (don’t you know? The world’s largest generator of renewable and clean energy? No yet? I give up!). However, there are many other interesting points to know in the city, as Bird’s Park, Triple Frontier Mark, Budism Temple, The Mosque, and others.

First, let me tell something about Foz do Iguaçu. It is located 650 km west of Curitiba, Paraná’s capital city, in a region of triple frontier between Brazil, Paraguai and Argentina. Second brazilian tourist point more visited by foreigner tourist (the first is Rio de Janeiro), Foz do Iguaçu has an excelent infrastructure to visitors: 156 inns and 126 restaurants.

The city’s center is divided by four important avenues. The main one is Av. Juscelino Kubitschek (where you take the buses to Iguaçu Falls and Itaipu). The tree others avenues are: Av. Paraná (where the main mall is located), Av. José Schimmelpfeng (where are located some pubs), and Av. República Argentina. Another important is Avenue of Cataratas, the way to Iguazu Falls (brazilian and argetinan sides).

Ok, now, about the touristic attration:

Vote to Iguaçu Falls as one of the new seven wonders of nature: http://www.votenascataratas.com/

Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant

One of the seven wonders of the modern world, acoording to American Society of Civil Engineers, Itaipu is a hidroelectric power plant on Paraná River (one of the largest rivers in the world). Its owner? Brazil and Paraguai, exactly fifty-fifty. In the building of the dam, 40,000 people worked for nine years – the volume of concrete used in its construction would be enough to build 210 stadiums like Maracanã; the iron and the steel used would be enough to build 380 Eiffel towers.
