Any host for a metalhead tourist in Barcelona? :)
Posted August 3rd, 2012 - 12:49 am by from Moscow, Russia (Permalink)
Hello guys,

I'll be travelling Barcelona from August, 16th till August, 25th. Already have a hostel bed booked, but it's not the same fun as surfing with locals, eh? Yet, no luck in finding a host for this time. Seems that all the locals run away from the tourist invasion to Barcelona in August :)

I'm a tranquil and appreciative guest: I don't smoke, I don't drink alcohol (some may say it's not that metal, but I can't agree :P), I don't do drugs, but I listen to metal a lot and somewhat can play electric guitar and I LOVE turning control knobs on guitar amplifiers!
So please let me know if either any of you or your friends can host me, it will be greatly appreciated!
At least, if no one hosts, let's hang out?
Really guys, host me and let's hang out :)

Hi Alexey,

I'm going to be in Barcelona in the same week you'll be there. You'll have to know I'm not a local - it's going to be my first time in Barcelona - but I'm up for meeting anyway, in a bar or something.

Hey man,

Would be great to meet up and hang out!

Hey guys! Me and a bunch of other Finns are coming again to BCN on the 15th. Mainly going to be in for the Gracia festival but metal, as last year, is going to be another major part of it :) So lets mee up at some point! Staying at the Mambo Tango hostel.

hi everyone,

a local metalhead speaking. I just came back from Wacken and Berlin and I am catching up again with stuff goin on in Barcelona.

Would be awesome to show you around. Saturday should be the best day to meet up. We could do a bar tour or something and then go rock hard somewhere.

What do you guys think about it?

Let's share some good times!!!

Posted August 13th, 2012 - 8:27 pm by from Moscow, Russia (Permalink)
Seems that it must be some metal crowd :)
I would be happy to meet up with all of you people.

So far I'm staying at Inout hostel, not in the heart of the city, but public transportation is easily available.

Maybe Sara or Andrea would suggest some meeting place for all of us foreigners? :)

Posted August 14th, 2012 - 11:45 am by from Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Spain (Permalink)
I would suggest something in the city center, maybe Plaça Universitat so we can start the crawl by visiting carrer tallers, where all the metal shops are located and we can go to "Valhalla" and "la ovella negra" for beers (to start with hahaha). What do you guys think? Maybe meet up at 7pm so it's still daylight and then see what the night brings?

Posted August 14th, 2012 - 12:06 pm by from Moscow, Russia (Permalink)
I'm not sure yet if I'm able to get to my hostel by public transport in the night when metro doesn't work (or do we hang out till dawn?) Otherwise sounds extremely cool to me.

Also I'm open to meeting up on Friday (actually, everyday) too, so if anyone is free - we could meet up then.

Posted August 14th, 2012 - 12:38 pm by from Amsterdam, Netherlands (Permalink)
Saturday 19.00, Placa Universitat sounds perfect.

Alexey, I'd say hang out 'till dawn hehehe, but otherwise, from what I've heard at least, taxi rides are really cheap in Barcelona. I hope, also for my own sake, that you guys can confirm this :P

Posted August 14th, 2012 - 6:25 pm by from Moscow, Russia (Permalink)
Metal till dawn would be very nice in my opinion :)

Posted August 14th, 2012 - 10:33 am by from Amsterdam, Netherlands (Permalink)
Lol fuck yeah, sounds awesome, I'll be there on saturday. I'm staying at an hotel at c/ portaferrissa if I recall it correct, so that's pretty much in the middle of everything isn't it? Doesn't really matter anyway, just let me know where to go.

Posted August 14th, 2012 - 1:32 pm by from Barcelona, Spain (Permalink)
well guys... I don't like very much Valhalla... but if u want to go it's ok. I prefer to go to Hell Awaits and later to Marina... It's my route!!! jajajajaja But all it's ok! I think that is better if we go at first to valhalla and later to Marina, I think it's better...well depends the kind of music that you prefer...
what will be the hour??

Posted August 14th, 2012 - 5:49 pm by from Barcelona, Spain (Permalink)
Well...I told the plan to my friends and it's possible that they will come with us that night. They're from Barcelona and they know the best clubs to listen thrash music or metal in general. They told me that it would be better if we go before to the Hell awaits, becouse is cheaper than the other places. Later all the people will go to Marina to drink something in BB+ or in Crusaider.
Tell me something about!!
See you guysssss

Posted August 14th, 2012 - 6:30 pm by from Moscow, Russia (Permalink)
I probably would prefer some metal shopping, at least an attempt of it, before the clubs thing, so if there are some metal/rock shops in the area - it would be interesting to me to go there before 19:00. Any club route suggested by local people is good for me, especially if we hang out the whole night :P

Posted August 14th, 2012 - 9:18 pm by from Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Spain (Permalink)

I know V. is not the best bar in town, but I thought it would be easier for all of us to meet up in the city center and go somewhere by foot at first so if there is anyone coming later can still catch us up, and then go to Marina... Of course!!! ;) My fav place is Dixi, even though is now closed for holidays: not so metal, but it's emotional (you will remember my words when you are almost 30 and can still go to places you used to go when u were a teenager).

Anyways, I just want to remind all of you that:

Subways run all night long --- YOU CAN JOIN OR LEAVE US WHENEVER YOU WANT!!

In Marina there are some discos, in case you wanna rock till dawn (even though not so metal).

see you all on sat! Can't wait!!!

This must be a good news!

Somehow I remembered that in March, when I was in Barcelona for the first time, subways stopped working on weekends even earlier than on Friday. Seems that I got confused that time.

I wonder, do discos in Marina have some evil dubstep :)

Posted August 15th, 2012 - 12:51 pm by from Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Spain (Permalink)
there was probably a strike Alexey ;)

dubstep...lemme think... a good mix of metal and dubstep takes place in Sr. Lobo (Mr Wolf)...they play an eclectic mix of metal, ska, dubstep, rock, dance and commercial, lots of fun ;)

Posted August 15th, 2012 - 3:44 pm by from Amsterdam, Netherlands (Permalink)
So... Marina is the name of a neighbourhood/entertainment area, I suppose?

Posted August 16th, 2012 - 6:06 am by from Barcelona, Spain (Permalink)
To listen dubstep you can go to 2 clubs that I know...
1-Factory (at ramblas)
2-Nylon (inside razzmatazz)
Did you say dubstep like skrillex??**
Can someone tell me what we are going to do? (with my mobil I can't read all the text, only the last one) thankxx!

Well me and my 4 friends from Finland will definitely be in for some serious metal action. Arrived last night and started our scouting from Tequila to Bollocks. Pretty good, but can do alot better!

Posted August 16th, 2012 - 8:33 pm by from Moscow, Russia (Permalink)
Just arrived to Inout hostel, station Baixador de Vallvidrera, line S1, and seems that S1 is not a metro, so it might not work all the night long :)

Posted August 17th, 2012 - 12:44 am by from Amsterdam, Netherlands (Permalink)
I arrived today as well.. First had some chiporones and a nice cold pint at barceloneta district. Lush :) however, afterwards i went to carrer pere iv or something to check out bb+ and crusader. Was there right before midnight and both were closed...! Wtf. Strolled all the way back to the city centre, just in time to have 2 more beers. Anyhow, what is up with the bars being closed dammit:p i need some advice for tommorow night. Where can i go for drinks? Any cool place open?

Posted August 17th, 2012 - 6:14 am by from Barcelona, Spain (Permalink)
Alexey, you can take the bus at night.
BR van Hogen, these bars only stay open the weekends. Other bar, or example, you can go to Paralel to the Hell Awaits.

Posted August 17th, 2012 - 8:48 am by from Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Spain (Permalink)

@Alexey: There might not be night buses that take you to collserola as Andrea points out, but rest assured that you won't notice trains not running at night since you will be returning when they are open again...hahahah

@Bob (BR van Hogen): They might be open again today, but best day is tomorrow. Take in consideration that August is low season for those bars since spaniards are out of town.

I attach a list of where to try, but I would mostly go to Gràcia tonite since they are having street parties and loads of people will be there. You can still try at bars:

Malpaso (punk, rock'n'roll...) Metro: L3 Liceu
Red Rocket (rock, r'n'r)web Metro: L3 Drassanes
The Bollocks (rock, hard-rock...) Metro: L3 Drassanes
Nevermind (grunge, alternative & skate) web Metro: L3 Drassanes
Sidecar (jueves rock'n'roll, los sábados indie) Metro: L3 Liceu
Tequila (rock y heavy) Metro: L3 Drassanes
Rocka-Rolla (metal) Metro: L3 Drassanes ---> I strongly recommend this one ;)

El Born
Sala Monasterio (blues, rock, funk...) web Metro: L4 Barceloneta
Sala Màgic (Rock'n'roll, hard rock, rock internacional en todas sus variantes) web Metro:L4 Barceloneta

(decaffeinated rock on my humble opinion)

Poble Nou (Marina)
Ceferino (spanish rock) Metro: L4 Bogatell
BB+ (heavy) Metro: L4 Poblenou
Hijos de Caín (rock y música en español) web Metro: L4 Bogatell
Puerto Hurraco (punk) Metro: L4 Poblenou
Mephisto (heavy metal, hard-rock) web Metro: L4 Llacuna (not today!!)
Rocksound (jueves ska y reggae, fin de semana rock'n'roll) web Metro: L4 Marina

Honky Tonk (blues y rock) Metro: L5 Plaça de Sants L1 Mercat Nou
Metal Sants (heavy metal) Metro: L5 Sants Estació RENFE: Sants Estació ---> HIGHLIGHTED
PSYCHO Rock and Roll Club (Rock'n'roll) Metro: L3 Paral.lel
Bunker (Rock, heavy...) Metro: L3 Poble Sec -->HIGHLIGHTED, I would go to Hell Awaits first and then to Bunker both on same metro station.

Ballbreaker (rock'n'roll, hard rock) Metro: L7 Gràcia y resto líneas de FGC
La Perla (Rock, heavy metal, hard rock) web Metro: L3 Fontana L4 Joanic
Relics (rock, heavy...) Metro: L5 Diagonal

Valhalla (rock, heavy...) web Metro: L1,L3, L6, L7 y líneas de FGC Catalunya L1,L2 Universitat RENFE: Plaça de Catalunya (calle Tallers, will be there on Saturday for sure).
Big Bang (rock, jazz...) web Metro: L2 Sant Antoni

Eixample Dreta

Bar Daytona (Rock) Metro: L1 Rocafort

Les Corts

Barbara Ann (sixties, rock'n'roll...)web Tram: T1 T2 T3 L'Illa

I hope this helps!!!

We are so there. That list covers pretty well our current knowledge with a few additions. Checked out bollocks and tequila, could not find Rock n Rolla though..
Metal Sants was closed last night as was every single place near Razzmatazz. Hopefully tonight will be abit better.

Been doing Gracia for 2 nights now as well :P

See you guys soon!

Gracia where by the way? You meant the neighbourhood in general, or is there a specific street/square where the party's at?

Posted August 17th, 2012 - 11:15 am by from Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Spain (Permalink)
the party is insane and all over the place...each street has their on decor (not all but many) and own live music.

It is a lot of fun. If you have the chance, do not miss the decoration based on Star Wars, the western fort and the Freak Show. Your mission will be to find them. mwahahaha!!

check the map out (sorry, website for details is mostly in catalan):

yup!!! tomorrow Saturday 18/08/2012 we have a metaldate! \m/

Posted August 17th, 2012 - 11:49 pm by from Moscow, Russia (Permalink)
By the way, I've been to station Universitat today exploring the gathering point. And there are at least 3 elevators going to Placa Universitat at the station hall: two with single elevators going up and the wide one with two elevators going in both directions. So do we meet up at the wide exit? Underground or on the surface? :)
