Google eBooks

Hi book worms,

In case some people like to read "classics" where the authors has been deceased more than 70 years ago (and hence all copyrights have been expired) have a look at Google's eBooks. http://books.google.com

E.g. if you want to download the whole "El ingenioso hidalgo don Quijote de la Mancha" for free just go here:
http://books.google.com/books?id=6LHOo0d9LyQC&dq=don%20quixote%20cervantes&pg=PR1#v=onepage&q&f=false

Then click the "Get it now" link on the left. Then choose your preferred format, e.g. pdf.

The same holds for virtually all "classical" (= old) pieces of literature. Go to "Advanced Search" and choose your preferred language. Also select "Full View" so that you only see books that are available for free.

Needless to say though that the coverage for English is better than for Spanish. Also the books are scanned and so the quality is not necessarily great but, hey, it's free!

If you're interested, in the US you can also buy books online using this service. Maybe this is possible via a proxy server from Spain as well but I haven't tried this. As "shipping" is in electronic form it shouldn't matter too much if you accidentally enter a wrong address/country (but you'll still need an IP address from the US - hence the proxy).

Enjoy!
Ingmar
