a bike to borrow?

Hi,

My name is Ari, I'm from Chicago. I bike-commute in Chicago, and I always tell surfers that the #1 thing they have to do when here is to ride the lakefront path (18 miles from end to end!). I'm coming to NYC this weekend, from Friday morning to Monday morning. My sister decided last week to surprise our grandmother for mother's day, and I've decided to come also. I'll be flying standby, one of those last-minute trips... So in addition to going to one or both of the CS events on Saturday, I'm hoping to borrow or rent a bike for Friday and/or Saturday. Does anyone have a bike, or know where I could borrow or rent one? I'm 5 foot 6, I wear 30-inch inseam pants. My current bike is a Bianchi San Jose, 52cm frame. single-speed but not fixie. I'd be happy to donate some money for maintainance, and I could bring a helmet, lock and lights if that's easier.

And where do you recommend riding? (trails, parks, free or cheap museums) I know there's a path on the Hudson in Manhattan, beyond that I'm not sure. I'm not exactly sure where I'll be staying. My grandmother lives in Great Neck, so not there if I can avoid it. I have other family in Brooklyn in Carroll Gardens, so possibly there.

Thanks for the help, your guide has a lot of useful links Ari

Hey, Ari!

Here's a site with some good resources! Your best bet would be to rent a bike. Prices depend on what type of bike you want, of course. Some even come with gear (helmet, lock, etc.). Good luck!

Hi Ari, you can rent a bike close to any park, there are bike shops. I like the west side bikeway and also central park has 3 trails.

Rico/Ari - you guys planning to do the Manhattan loop anytime this weekend? I will love to join. I bought my bike recently in NYC and have not done the circumference yet.

Thanks
