hi Rushikesh,

I've read through your profile and you seem to be an intelligent person. I am confident things will get better for you. how can they not if you are looking for a touring bike and just registered with CS?

I expect you to want a bike ASAP, but if you can wait until late August, here's something we could do:

on Aug. 8 I will arrive in Boston and set out for a bike tour to NYC. that should take me about 2 weeks since I want to enjoy my time with hosts. in NYC I have an old friend and I am going to spend 2 more weeks there. I am leaving on Sept. 5.

so I plan to acquire a bike in the Boston area and eventually sell it to someone around NYC. there will be an auction probably: eBay, craigslist, whatever...
OR, if around Aug. 25 we agree on a price, you can spare me the auction.
AND if before Aug. 8 we agree on a specific bike from a specific dealer in the Boston area, I can provide you with the bike you want for a slightly lower price than I paid it, which may (who knows? I don't) already be less than that you would pay in NYC. you don't have to promise me you'll buy it (who knows what condition it will be in), it's just that if I buy the bike you want, the odds are greater someone (you) will buy it from me.

if we do that, you will also benefit (or the opposite if I do poorly) from my advice and experience with bikes. here's one of the things I've done: http://tinyurl.com/49d5ub4

that, of course, is only possible if we're made for the same frame size. I've found this http://www.sierratradingpost.com/lp2/bike-fit-guide.html after a quick search. at least height and inseam are essential. my height: 176 cm (69.5 in), my inseam: 83 cm (32.5 in). yours?

I haven't yet looked for bikes in the Boston area, but every true bike enthusiast on the web knows about http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheldon_Brown_%28bicycle_mechanic%29). obviously, they are the first place I would look.

there it is... have I forgotten something?
my strategy may not be perfect yet, it's the first time I'm writing about it. tell me if you have suggestions.

if someone else reads this and is also interested, please let it be known.

take care, Rushikesh.
Leonard

i tour on my steel road bike that i got for $30. ha! I would suggest looking outside the metro NYC area on craigslist - things are cheaper!
