Classes around the world

I thought i might get something rolling on this page, so I thought I might start by giving ome good advice on places to do class in NYC, where I have been staying for the past 2 12 months:

Mark Morris Dance Group- fantastic Adv Ballet classes every weekday morning at 10am. Amazing teacher, focusing on teaching classical ballet as a tool for modern dancers. It is an open class, but the teacher Marjorie gives individual attention to everybody.

$11/12 for 2hr class!

Dance New Amsterdam (DNA)- Great dance centre with a lot of modern/contemporary classes with a variety of great teachers. Definately the place for modern/contempoary dancers

Steps on Broadway- Another huge dance centre, offering a variety of dance styles, majority classical ballet. New Yorkers say this is where all the 'bunheads' of NYC do class. But you will not get any feedback or individual attention in these ballet classes.
The other classes are good and are taught by many of the same teachers who also teach at other dance centres.
The classes are often packed which can be distracting sometimes but it can also make the class full of energy.

Hi! Thanx for your recommendations=)
I'm thinking about going to New York in September/october... From what I've heard Dance New Amsterdam is the place for me! I'm especially in to modern dance. Has anyone of you been a VISA student there?

Cheers,

Linda

glad it could be of some help!

DNA is a really good dance centre! I have a good friend who did the visa program there and she spoke pretty highly of it.

I was actually thinking of trying to return one day to do it myself. The only thin g is the $20000 lump sum which you need to show the government in order to prove you can loook after yourself for the duration of stdy without working.
My friend borrowed the money so it was in her account when she applied for the visa and then payed it back straight away. She works as a waitress- cash in hand.

If you want to know anything else, just give me a yell.

Hey!

Thanks for the post, I was trying to find places to resume dancing, because it has been a while since my last class. Definitely I will try the DNA.

If someone goes to Madrid, Spain and wants to get some classes, there are some links:

http://www.estudio3.org/

It is a little and cozy studio in the center of Madrid. With a superb hardwood floor, their modern dance teachers are cool, both of limon and release techniques as contact improvisation, also they have theater courses.

http://www.karentaft.com/

Also in the city center, big space, good modern classes, but renowned for their classic an "spanish dance" ( I do not know if it is the proper word in english)

http://www.martadelavega.com/

Superb classic teachers, some of them teaches also in the national schools. They have also some guest teachers that are incredible.

http://www.scaena.net/

Great space, average teachers.

http://www.danzacarmensenra.es/

In the north of the city. The place to go if you want graham technique.

Ok, I think that's all.

See you!

Daniel.

Hi! I live in Guatemala City and a new dance studio has recently opened (January). It's called 'Arte Proyecto' and the lady running the studio (Andrea), is super!

Her website is still being developed but here's the link:
http://www.arteproyecto.com/

I am an adult dancer and am taking a release technique class and also Swasthya Yoga. I know she also offers modern jazz, ballet, and contemporary.

If you ever come to Guatemala and want to take a class, the drop in fee is 100 Quetzales, which is about $12.50.

Adios!
