ABC Channel 7, EYEWITNESS NEWS, where the WAVE RISING SERIES was described as “a dance extravaganza you will not want to miss”.

WHITE WAVE is thrilled to present rising dancemakers as well as world-renowned companies in six heart-stopping programs of contemporary dance. This year’s WAVE RISING SERIES will present 20 dance companies from France,Germany, Switzerland, Iceland, the United Kingdom, Korea and across the United States. The Series is selected and tightly curated by Young Soon Kim and an eight-member selection panel of prominent figures from the dance world. Someof the companies participating in this year’s SERIES are Alexandra Beller/dances, Andrea Miller/Gallim Dance, Christal Brown/INSPIRIT DANCE, Christopher Williams, Compagnie 7273 (Switzerland/France), johannes wieland, Steinunn Ketilsdottir and Brian Gerke (Iceland), and WHITE WAVE Young Soon Kim Dance Company, just to name a few.

All companies will be showcased in 30-minute programs presented 3 times throughout the series. Each Wednesday of the Series, WHITE WAVE will host a GALA Benefit, a unique and one-night preview offering a sampling of all of the artists participating in the upcoming week’s performance.

WHITE WAVE’s festivals are widely covered by the press. One special highlight of WHITE WAVE’s press coverage was in the fall of 2007, feature on ABC Channel 7, EYEWITNESS NEWS, where the WAVE RISING SERIES was described as “a dance extravaganza you will not want to miss”. In addition, Jennifer Dunning of the New York Times wrote “…The ambitious festival, directed by Young Soon Kim and presented at the gleaming John Ryan Theater at the WHITE WAVE Performance and Rehearsal Space in Brooklyn, stood out for the generally high level of the choreography and performing.” DANCE Magazine’s Siobhan Burke wrote in the 2008 New York Notebook, “Presenting three dance festivals in four months may seem like a challenge, but Young Soon Kim embraces the task. All come together through (her) ongoing search for unbridled creativity, brazen curiosity, and dance that does away with boundaries.”

Opening Night Gala Celebrations: These three single-night unique previews offer a sampling of all of the artists participating in the upcoming week’s performance, followed by a wine and cheese reception.
