Dzongkha language and newspapers?
Posted October 29th, 2012 - 1:26 pm by from Budapest, Hungary (Permalink)
Dear Members in Bhutan,

I've started to learn Tibetan at the university. I'm really interested in Dzongkha language and culture also but in my country (Hungary) it's quite impossible to get some deeper information about this language. There are no dictionaries or phrasebooks. :-(

Is there any language book or just a newspaper in Dzongkha language? Can anyone offer me something. I would be so thankful if someboudy could send me something in Dzongkha.

I've seen a newspaper called: Druk Neytshuel.

I'd really like to get one from this newspaper. :-)

András - check out the group description - I have included online links there of some other publications apart from bbs.
Kuensel seems to have their content coming in Dzongkha too:

English: http://www.kuenselonline.com/2011/
Dzongkha: http://kuenseldzongkhaonline.blogspot.co.uk/

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Vishnu.

Szia András,

If you are interested in deeper information about the Dzongkha language, you should get Van Driem's 1998 book which is the only serious study of the language from a linguistic perspective. You can order it here: http://www.lup.nl/do.php?a=show_visitor_book&isbn=9789087280581

There is a Dzongkha dictionary online here: http://www.dzongkha.gov.bt/online/dictionaries/dz-en-dict/index.html

Hope this helps,
Rohan
