Diving around Melbourne
Posted September 6th, 2011 - 11:51 am by from Wollongong, Australia (Permalink)
Hi!
I would like to do some diving trips around Melbourne. I heard especially in winter time there are some really nice spots for diving. If you have already done a dive, I would be happy to get some hints about where to do it and which dive center to go with best. I would be happy as well about some company, when you also want do go diving. I just did the Padi rescue diver and am therefore kind of experienced. I have to rent all the gear at a dive center. I would do an organised dive with a dive center or just with some other divers.
Cheers,
Cat

Hey!
I'll totally dive with you anytime, but I'm just open water certified so I'm a little boring :( Let me know if you ever need a buddy though!

Hey!
Sounds good. Being a beginner is not a problem. It's not like most other sports. It's still fun. Then we probably should join an organised diving trip. Because I don't have a car and gear either. What about maybe not this weekend but the one after that? I try to find out about a dive center around Melbourne and what kind of trips they offer. I will tell you then. Just tell me, if you have some other ideas!

Hi Catharina,

If you are looking for a good place to dive in Melbourne, I suggest Queenscliff. It has a great range of different dives you can do (of different experience levels). The Queenscliff Dive Centre has accomodation and is a pretty nice place to chill out. I am not connected with them in any way; I have just stayed there before and LOVED it.
Go here: http://www.divequeenscliff.com.au/
It is around 1 1/4 hours from Melbourne, so you'll probably need a car or someone to drive.

Also the pier dive at Portsea is a classic Melbourne dive.

Happy diving!

Wow!
I am about to complete my IANTD Rescue and move to Melbourne hopefully in short.... I would LOVE to have some people to go diving with!

I'll try to bring my gear... Ehm, how cold does it get in the winter? Do you need a dry suit there?

Whooohoooo!!! ^_^

Hey Francesco!

You are always welcome here!
You will maybe need a dry suit for winter diving here, but it's not absolutely vital. Usually a 10mm suit is okay for most dives off the mainland.
As you go north, you can just dive in your shorts :0) but Winter in Melbourne is COLD!!
We just went to Italy this month, by the way (but no diving).

Peace, Rhys

Thanks a lot!
Guess I'll stay dry then. ^_^

Looking forward to meet some CS diver then!

Cheers!
