Zephyr Club
Posted February 1st, 2013 - 12:08 am by from Philadelphia, United States (Permalink)
Zephyr is a historic Australian yatch (Australia's oldest known sailing yatch, built 1873 in Port Adelaide, website zephyrboat.yolasite.com). Currently it is being run as a club or co-op, with participants having use of the boat in return for their input.
If you are interested in being part of this reply here or message me. There's no commitment involved. With enough people, members can come and go and there should always be enough to keep it going. Once it is back sailing it could also be used for long trips, Tasmania, Queensland, even overseas, if members want to do that.

Currently the boat is out of the water at yaringa boat harbour, 70K from Melbourne. It needs a few weeks of work before going back in the water, deck work, painting etc. We are offered free docking in Melbourne (normally $1000/month or more) as long as it is used for community service. If anyone can think of some kind of community service that it could do, that would be appreciated. I've already contacted a charity organisation who are interested but won't know for about a week whether they can do something with it.

Cheers Jim

Hey Markie, we're doing the deck at the moment, no more leaky boat soon! Trying the traditional method, tapping cotton in the seams then an appropraite gunk to finish off. Also epoxy filling of the various imperfections in the deck planks.
Looking at putting a steel shoe along the length of the keel, that would make it as strong as a tank and stop worms in trips to northern climes.

I could actually help over the weekends. This project seems incredible - to get Zephyr up and running.
but unfortunately without a car it migght be very difficult for me to get there, 70K away from Melbourne.
If I could get a lift this would be awesome.
Cheers and good luck!
