Tips for Great Ocean Road trip

Hi guys,

my friend and I plan to drive to the twelve apostles with a hired car this weekend!

Can you please recommend the best places on the way? Especially now with the flooding some things might have changed.

We are interested in

-the wildlife: kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, dolphins, penguins!, emus and all the other beauties.
-the scenic areas
-natural park
-pure nature: sinkholes and sunken volcanoes? yes please!
-we are also avid surf newbies and would love to stop on a beach to catch some waves

I would especially appreciate some insights for secluded sights! I just love pure untouched nature!!

We don't have a car so we'll have to rent one. Do you guys recommend a 4by4? I drove in a thai jungle before with a jeep and realized how 4by4 can be a life saver!

One more question: Sleeping. Do you think we can sleep outside? Though we are horribly equipped camping wise.. and which cities are best to stop for a resting maybe even with couch surfers.

Please share your wisdom, much appreciated also if just on one of the points!

Best,
Jake
