Anybody interested in camping at Wilsons Prom?
Posted January 26th, 2011 - 4:13 am by from Dallas, United States (Permalink)
Hi everybody!

So I'm going to be in Melbourne during the last two weeks in February and I've heard amazing things about Wilsons Prom. I'd love to help put together a camping trip if at all possible.

I'm not going to have a car or a tent, but I'm more than happy to help out with the cost of gas, as well as food and other essentials. If anyone would have a tent they could share with me, or a spare one, that would be fantastic.

I'm very flexible on the specific dates of a trip, so if anybody's interested in going somewhere between 13 Feb and 28 Feb, let me know!

Hey Ted,

I'd be interestd to go there during one weekend if it's ok for you.

I have a Van and a tent so we can go there and camp easily.

Let's see if anyone want join :D

(I have only 1 place in the van)

Posted January 29th, 2011 - 8:03 am by from Dallas, United States (Permalink)
That sounds great! I am going to invite the people I am couchsurfing with in Melbourne too.

I will be able to go camping during the weekend of the 18th - 20th, or the 25th - 27th. Which weekend would work better for you?

- Teddy

Posted January 30th, 2011 - 10:04 pm by from Jalhay, Belgium (Permalink)
@ Ted : The weekend of 18-20 is the best becaus I'm leaving for 2 weeks in Tassie the 26th.

Let's plan it this time (depends on the weather anyway) but I have 2 tents for 2 and a Van (1 seat and 1 place to sleep for someone if not scared about sleeping next to me xD)

Would be really great to go there and hike.

We should decide if we go camping in the camping or hiking and camp in the park...

Hope to hear about you soon.

(you can MP me if you prefer)

I am also really interested in camping there, but I have no tent and no car...
And I have never been camping here before, so it would be great to find somebody who comes with me.
When are you goung to start on the 18th? I have visit from a friend who wants to go camping here too.
Is it possible to come with you???? Are you just going on the weekends?

Posted February 6th, 2011 - 10:47 pm by from Bonn, Germany (Permalink)
I will probably go camping with Teddy and Olivier and I have two more places in the car to offer...I don´t have an own car, but if we share the rent with 4 people, it wouldn´t be expensive;-)
So, if anybody is interested, just write me a message!

Posted February 7th, 2011 - 12:25 am by from Jalhay, Belgium (Permalink)
Hi Barbara,

Yeah sure you can join us for this trip.

We will head of Friday 18th around 5pm and come back the 20th. Teddy is coming with me in the van and we will catch up at Box Hill.

She will bring 2 friends and don't know if they have their own car... could be a good idea to see with them or with Teddy.

I have tents for me and I borrow my other one to Teddy's friends so you should find one for this weekend.

Could you come to Box Hill around 5pm Friday 18th to do the road together ?

Posted February 7th, 2011 - 1:55 am by from Bonn, Germany (Permalink)
Oh, ok...Teddy told me that she asked you if i can use your tent??? Are there really more people?? I don´t have a tent, so I have to see if I find anybody here with tent...
Is Box Hill in the right direction to Wilson Prom when coming from Melbourne?
I have to check if this is on the map that I have... but meeting in the area here would be a good idea, I have never been driven a car in Melbourne, so it would be better not to have to look for the way;-)
I try to find two more people to share the car because it is not that cheap for two people....

Posted February 7th, 2011 - 3:46 am by from Liege, Belgium (Permalink)
Hi everyone !
I am arriving in Melbourne on February 10th and will definitely be interested to join u ! Don't have a car or a tent but can share drive and costs...
looking forward to hearing from you...

Posted February 7th, 2011 - 3:59 am by from Jalhay, Belgium (Permalink)
Hey Barbara,

Teddy told me she will bring CS'er so it would probably be you... and yes I have a tent that I can borrow...

Teddy, how many are we, who is comming?
let's do a list:

- Teddy
- Barabara
- Oli
- Alice (hey une liegeoise genial, pareil ;-))
- ... ???

I could perhaps take more people in the van but you would stay on my bed for few hours drive, without security belts... but I can fit 2 people in the back (and 2 in the front)

if we are 4, we can do that. if more, better to rent a car.

Most important is to know how many we are...

Can't wait to go. That will be a great time !

Posted February 7th, 2011 - 7:04 am by from Dallas, United States (Permalink)
Hey everybody,
I was talking to Barbara about her and her friend coming and sharing the tent, so that is all good!
At the moment i suppose there are five of us -
Barbara and her friend
Sissy (?)

Posted February 7th, 2011 - 7:16 am by from Dallas, United States (Permalink)
I just saw that your name is Alice and not Sissy!
If you would like, i can ask some of the people i am staying with in melbourne and see if they wouldnt mind lending you a tent.

Posted February 7th, 2011 - 8:10 am by from Liege, Belgium (Permalink)
Great! The only thing is that I will be looking for a job straight on my arrival...but I really would like to join you, I have been told about Wilson Prom as well ;-) Can't wait to be in Melbourne!!!
Btw, does anyone happen to have a couch available on Thursday, 10th?
Olivier, I am actually from Verviers, and one of my brothers lives now in Jalhay...I think i heard about you...are you a "dj"? World is small...

Posted February 7th, 2011 - 8:28 am by from Bonn, Germany (Permalink)
Hi Alice,
if you will definitely come with us, we can rent a car together. So we are already three in the car...
If you do not come with us, I would like to take Oliviers offer to go with him in the back of the car because together with my friend, we would be 4 people then.
We can just wait for Alice or if somebody else will come with us...I suppose that renting a car is possible spontaneuos. Or what do you think?

Posted January 27th, 2011 - 1:18 am by from Melbourne, Australia (Permalink)
The amazing things you've heard are true!

If you can arrive in Melb by Feb 4th, I'm going that weekend 5th-6th.

Posted February 7th, 2011 - 10:46 am by from Bonn, Germany (Permalink)
Hi to all of you,
and hi Oli how are you and what is your surfing doing?
I have to check my diary again tomorrow but I am keen to join you guys. If I am free, what I think, then we have one car more with 4 free seats and plenty of space and a spare 2 and 3 person tend.
I would really be interested in an overnight hike, that means hike somewhere with all the gear sleep there and go back on the next day. There are some really great hikes down there.
I organised a trip with CS last year and is was really great (see pictures in my profile). We stayed at the campground and made day trips.
Cheers Christian

Posted February 7th, 2011 - 11:05 am by from Jalhay, Belgium (Permalink)
Yeah Chris,

nice to hear about you :D
my surfing is doing well, I keep practicing, have bought my surfboard and ready to ride any wave haha.

You've bought a wakeboard, looks nice and should be lot of fun !!!

If you come, they won't have to rent a car and we will go there with Lilou and my Michou... hehe

Tell us what as soon as you know.

The plan is going down there friday after work and sleep somewhere near the cars then go for a 2 days hike and be back Sunday. Go back to Melbourne Sunday (late afternoon).

@ Alice : yes, I'm the one "dj" from Jalhay... who's your brother? How did you hear about me? Hope it's in good mind ;-)
World is definitively too small xD

Posted February 7th, 2011 - 10:29 pm by from Liege, Belgium (Permalink)
Will defnitely be interested in an overnight hike !!! I will keep you posted about my job search...
Olivier, my brother is Denis Jacquet, his girlfriend Valerie Thys. I think he contacted you in September because I made a party before leaving Belgium. But I eventually found a DJ from Liege.
See you soon,

Posted February 7th, 2011 - 10:59 pm by from Bonn, Germany (Permalink)
Hey Chris,
that sounds fantastic!!!!
Especially to have there somebody with a little bit of stuff that we could need;-)
I can just have the sleeping bag of my housemate but have nothing else to camp....but for one night anywhere, this will be enough!
And, of course, it is easier not to have to rent a car...till now, we would be 4 in your car, you included..
So, do you know where to go there?
Or should I organise anything???

Posted February 8th, 2011 - 2:20 am by from Bonn, Germany (Permalink)
Sorry all to give you wrong hope. I had a look at my dairy and there is already something on this weekend.
I will be riding the Melbourne Summer Cycle, a charity for Multiple Sclerosis affected people.

I still can borrow the tends to some people if needed.

Is someone coming to the St Kilda festival this weekend?
Cheers Christian

Posted February 8th, 2011 - 3:52 am by from Bonn, Germany (Permalink)
I am definitely going to st Kilda´s Festival on sunday, perhaps on one evening before,too...
When are you going there?

Posted February 13th, 2011 - 9:55 pm by from Jalhay, Belgium (Permalink)
Hi guys,

hope your weekend was as cool as mine ;-)

Let's talk about the next one at the Prom !

There is perhaps a Evan (other CS'er) interested to come with us.

We would be 6 so that would be nice for the car...

I suggest that we meet us at Box Hill South - Wattle Park
Easy to go there from the city :

- by tram : take the 70 on Swanston St (Flinders) and go to the end

- by car : go on Riversdale Rd and go to the end of Tram line !

We could meet us there around 5.30pm on Friday if OK for everyone ?!

We can go shopping all together to buy food and drinks. Or bring all your own if you prefer ;-)

I have 2 tents of 2 persons, Evan has a tent as well but are you comming ?

I suggest that the first night we sleep near the car (because it will be late arriving at the Prom friday night) and then go for a hike saturday and sunday then come back to Melbourne Sunday late afternoon.

What do you think ???

Is everyone still ready to go ?!

Can't wait !!! Hope the weather will be with us !

Posted February 14th, 2011 - 12:19 am by from Dallas, United States (Permalink)

That all sounds perfectly fine to me. Would anyboy happen to have a spare sleeping bag? And does anyone have a stove for the food?

Posted February 14th, 2011 - 12:34 am by from Jalhay, Belgium (Permalink)
I have a double stove in the van and another single one that we can take to go camping but 1 for 5-6 ppl won't be enough...

I have no sleeping bags for you but some pillows if you don't find anything...

You should bring all your cuttlery and plate (or paper/plastic stuff) because I have only for 2 ppl.

Posted February 14th, 2011 - 12:37 am by from Jalhay, Belgium (Permalink)
I just checked the weather and it looks shit for the moment... Hope that will change !

Posted February 14th, 2011 - 12:42 am by from Bonn, Germany (Permalink)
Me and my visit are ready for the weekend, if there are two more people who share the costs of the car hire???
So, what about Evan and Alice???
We should plan this all as soon as possible. Hast anybody of them driven here in Australia?
I have no stuff for camping, I will just bring some food that I can eat without stove;-)
As long as I can use your tent , this will run for one weekend.
I will just send you my mobile number per message.

Posted February 14th, 2011 - 1:12 am by from Jalhay, Belgium (Permalink)
Hey Barbara,

make sure you have a sleeping bog for the night because that would be cold. Especially this time is pretty cold for the moment even in the city so if we camp in the park that would be much colder...

Waiting for reply of Alice and Even perhaps.

@Teddy: in which car are you going ?
Would be great if someone come with me to read the road.

Posted February 14th, 2011 - 3:38 am by from Liege, Belgium (Permalink)
Hi everyone !!!

Let's go !!!
I found a job but I am not working this weekend...
But I am working in Collingwood until 5pm on Friday...so not sure how long it will take to go to Box Hill South. Maybe better to say 6pm if u don't mind? Or u can go shopping already...

I can read a map ;-)

And I can drive as well...I drove on the left side in NZ already...so should be fine ;-)

But if we need to rent a car it's maybe better if someone else can pick it up before...

We could also meet for a drink during the week to arrange evrything...

Can't wait !

Posted February 14th, 2011 - 4:50 am by from Dallas, United States (Permalink)
Hey oli, was planning on riding with you if that's all right!
I'm sure I'll find a sleeping bag.

And Alice, drinks are a good idea. Tomorrow or Wednesday would both be good for me. I will put my number on here if anyone needs it.

Ok Ted,

You are the lucky people to come in my amazing Van !

We will catch up around 5.30 and go shopping waiting Alice !

We will wait for Evan if he's interested but anyway, you can rent a car and you will be 3 at least in it.

Alice can drive and I guess Evan should be able to as well.

For all camping gear you can also ask Christian to borrow his stuff.
He's really cool (as long as you take care of his stuff hehe)

Hope the weather will change !!!

Posted February 14th, 2011 - 5:09 am by from Bonn, Germany (Permalink)
What about a meeting on wednesday evening??? We could meet anywhere in the city??? Collingwood is on my way to city by train, so this would fit very good, too...
When do you have time?

Posted February 14th, 2011 - 5:16 am by from Bonn, Germany (Permalink)
Olovier, is your tent a small one???? I hope it fits in the big back pack somehow????
I have a sleeping bag, hope that it fits all in the back pack;-)

I also wanted to suggest that in the event that it is raining too hard at Wilsons Prom this weekend, we instead go down the Great Ocean Road on those dates.

Posted February 14th, 2011 - 9:21 am by from Bonn, Germany (Permalink)
Great Ocean Road would be fine, too.... as long it is not raining there very strong! I have just been there for a day, this was definitely not enough!

Posted February 14th, 2011 - 10:01 pm by from Liege, Belgium (Permalink)
For those free and interested to meet and have a drink before the weekend, let's meet on Wednesday at 6pm at Federation Square...

Hey everybodyyyyy,

All right... I have a busy day I can't all I want but anyway I decided to come around 6pm at Fed Sq to meet you all and talk about this fantastic trip of this weekend !

I will come by bike so I would perhaps be a bit late, be indulgent ;-)

I take the phone number of Alice and let you know if I'm really late or if I don't find you.

Can't wait for this hahaaaaa !

Cheers ;-)

Hey guys, what happened? Was I in the wrong place?
I sat directly beneath the "i" of the visitor centre in Fed square that is directly across from Flinders station between 6:00 and 6:40 and then I left...
Unfortunately I forgot to add everyone's numbers in my phone before I came!

Posted February 16th, 2011 - 12:52 pm by from Jalhay, Belgium (Permalink)
Hey Ted,

we were there as well on the steps under the I :s

We probably have missed you... We hadn't your number to call you so that was difficult to catch up :s

Anyway, the report is that we are 6 or 7. You come with me if you're still all right and the other go in the car they will rent.

We need 1 more tent (Barbara ask Christian).

I have 2 tents and 2 mattresses. We all buy our own food and prepare something we can eat cool for the Saturday night. So that we don't need to take gas stoves with us. We can cook something for everyone the Friday. What about doing a big omelet ???

Don't forget to take something for lunches and breakfasts.

Water container, good shoes, rain coat, jumper, (first aid kit), torch, toilet paper, plates-bol and cutlery, towel and bath clothes if you want otherwise this is clothing optional on the beaches (I think) Ha ha !

All right, let's get ready for this.

We still meet around 5.30 friday at Wattle Park, Box Hill then go shopping for what we miss and then go on the road as soon as the others are there ;-)

Did I forgot something ?

Hahhaaaa will be AMAZING !

P.S: can you please all put the name and phone number of who's coming ?

thank you so much for giving me the rundown. My phone has only been working half the time so I thought I'd ask on here, what part of wattle park are we meeting in?

Meeting at Watle Park, tram stop around 5.30 - 6pm tomorrow.

Text me when you are there ! 0450 706 236

4 in the van with all equipment.

We will stop at bottle shop and woolworth before going at Wilsons Prom.

We have to camp 1 night at Tidal River (25 + 9 $ for 4 ppl)
then camp in the park somewhere (I'll print some good hikes ideas) = 8 $/per

Have to put fuel in the car, I have gas and gas stoves for friday night.

All is OK, tents are good, have 1 more mattress.

But I could also survive these two nights like that...
I have a lot to eat and enough to wear, so, everything will be running somehow!!!
See you tomorrow

Hey, how did you guys go last weekend?
Any hints, advices, recommendations for the Prom?

Posted February 22nd, 2011 - 12:15 pm by from Jalhay, Belgium (Permalink)
Really good walk !

I recommend Telegraph Track in 2 days (a bit pushed up but doable) or do it with Lighthouse if 3 days ;-)

I don;t know the other part of the park ;-)

Enjoy !
