Camping/Hiking/Roadtrip/Climbing/Beach sometime between 24th to 28th February
Posted February 17th, 2011 - 11:44 pm by from Berlin, Germany (Permalink)
Hey folks!

Who's up for a little adventure in Melbourne's surrounds?
I'm not working from 24th to 28th of February, and would like to get out of the city for a couple of days.
My favourite destination would be Wilsons Prom as I haven't been there yet, other destinations could be Grampians, Lederberg National Park, Mornington Peninsula - but am also open to other suggestions. If there are some climbers out there that want to go outdoor climbing that would be another great thing to do.

Anyone interested? Lets organize something!

Great idea! Wilsons Prom sounds nice.

I'm not working Friday (9.30 in the morning) until Monday afternoon (around 2.30).

I am interested in hiking/camping and I am free from Thursday evening till Sunday evening...Unfortunately I am not a climber... I haven't been to any of those destinations so I am keen for everything!

So far it's Joke, Alice, Mihika & me. Is everybody happy with Wilsons Prom? How about we leave Friday evening & return on Sunday evening?
I don't have a car by the way. Who has one? Or are we renting?

I'm happy with Wilsons Prom.

Don't have a car...

Ok, looks like we have to rent a car, or is there anybody else interested who's got one and would like to come along?

I checked some car rentals. The cheapest offer I found was 84$ for 2 days from rentabomb in Richmond. We would have to pick up the car on Friday 5pm and can return it on Sunday at 6pm. It takes about 3 hours to drive down to Wilsons Prom, so if we manage to leave at 6pm we will be arriving at 9pm, means it would be already dark by then. Alternatively we could pick the car up on Saturday morning at 9am & return it at 6pm on Sunday for 75$. What are your thoughts?
And how about camping equipment? I only have a tent for 2 people, a sleeping bag & a tarp. I also hope that I won't be the only driver as I haven't really been driving here :)

Sorry but I won't be able to come...have to work on Saturday...
Enjoy !!!

Don't really know about leaving on Friday or Saturday... Why can't we leave earlier on Friday? When do you have to book the car?
I have a drivers license as well, but never drove on the 'wrong' side of the road though (keep postponing it for some reason).
Equipment then: I have a sleeping bag, but that's about it... I'll ask some friends to see if they have a tent.

Hey Martin, I just want to recommend a good spot for camping called Bear Gully. It's free, peaceful, pretty and close to Wilson's Prom. Other than that I don't have my camping gear up here so can't help with that sorry. Hope you have fun!

Hi Laura ! Cheers for the hint - that seems to be a cool spot to put our tents up.

Joke: we can go Friday early now as Mihika isn't coming anymore either - she would have been only able to go friday evening thats why the late departure originally.
Two inexperienced drivers on the left side of the road haha that will be fun ;) but cool that you have a licence as well!
So maybe we can camp here - its the camping ground Laura suggested & not too far from Wilsons Prom:

Franzika & friend: You guys have any camping gear at all?

Anyone else interested in joining?

So who is joining and who is not? Otherwise I'll have a friend willing to join us.
What kind of camping gear do we still need?

Hey Joke! Was just about to send you a message..At the moment there is only the both of us for sure. Alice & Mihika bailed out & I haven't hearded anything back from Franziska. Bring your friend - would be cool if we could find a 4th person to join us tho..
I regards to camping equipment one of those little gas stove thingies & an esky would be handy I suppose, but for 2 nights it probably doesn't really matter.

So 3 of us are leaving Saturday morning from Richmond & return on Monday morning. We are renting a car & still have space left. Costs for the rental will be around 160$ for the time plus costs for fuel & food etc. We probably stay for one night at the free camping site Laura recommended & another night somewhere in Wilsons Prom directly.

Anybody else that wants to join? If you can drive & have some camping gear that would come in handy.
