Tasmanian Bike Adventure Jan/Feb 2012
Posted July 12th, 2011 - 11:13 pm by from Melbourne, Australia (Permalink)
So I've been considering a bike ride around Tassie for a few years and have decided that this summer it's on! Still no idea exactly where or when, and at this stage just gauging interest. Any ideas welcome :D

So the general plan is to do it in about a month (plus) in January or Febuary. It's going to be el cheapo, with some camping, couchsurfing and hostel/hotels. Maybe a mini hike up cradle mountain on the way past...

The route outlined here sounds pretty great, though post-europe bike trip I would take it slower if we have camping stuff - 60km/day is not realistic (hysterical laughter):

Basically this will have some hard work in it, but it's not for crazy lycra racing types. I'm slow and have a have a heavy-ass bike. Rest days and non-bike adventures are a necessary, so people on a time limit (yes you real job types, i'm looking at you) may struggle. Requires a bike (WITH GEARS!), panniers, basic camping gear.

The general idea is that the Great Vic Bike Ride costs about a grand, and I think I can do better for that much money (minus the sqealing school kids).
