Visa in China, for stopover in China and for being only at the airport?

Dear CouchSurfers,

Could you
please advise me with sth?

I’m going to
fly from Berlin to Hong Kong at the beginning of February.

I’m going
to have stopover in Guangzhou / Kanton. So this is in China.

I’m having
a return flight to my country in May. And here the same, I going to have a
stopover in Guangzhou / Kanton.

When I will
be waiting for the flight I’m not going to cross the Chinese border.

In this two
cases, do you have to apply for the Chinese visa? If I plan to stay only at the
airport. Or is it treat it as staying only at the airport and no visa is
needed?

I heard I
don’t have to but I’d like to see a confirmation. Anyway, I will contact the
Chinese Ambassy in my country in order to confirm it. Maybe some you would be
so nice to assist me:).

Normally, If
cross the Chinese border, mainland China I do need visa. But I only have a
stopover at the airport, I’m not quite sure.

Than you in
advance for your assistance,

Kind
Regards,

Kamil

I found this:
http://www.visaforchina.org/MIL_EN/visainstruction/250836.shtml

but I would strongly recommend that you check with your nearest Chinese embassy or consulate as this is all in flux and whatever anyone other than an embassy or consulate tells you might not hold up when trying to board the plane ...

Many thanks. Today I visited Chinese Amnbassy in my country and I talked to one guy from China, he might be an ambassador and he confirmed that if I stay only at the airport visa is not required.

On my 2nd post I got this response:
