walking companion needed - a walk through China
Posted February 7th, 2013 - 1:58 pm by from Warsaw, Poland (Permalink)
Dear Couchsurfers,

I'm planning to walk in China (from 6th till 30th of August 2013) and need a travel companion (preferably a Chinese speaker).
I'm a walker. I walk through the villages, passing by, talking to people, breathing. Over time I discovered that it's always the best way of travelling. I walked in many places, sometimes alone, sometimes with other people (mostly with my three daugthers) in Poland, from Switzerland to Italian seaside, in India on the North and South, in Karakorum in Turkmenistan or in Palestine. Wherever I can - I walk.

Now I would like to experience China by foot.
Therefore I'm looking for a walking companion who could join me and share this adventure. We can discuss and decide together where to go exactly (I have few ideas, but I would be happy to confront them with somebody more familiar with the country). The concept is simple: we choose the starting point and walk for 3 weeks (I always guide myself by observing the sun and after Turkmenistan and South of India I'm not scared of any climate).

Nice idea

I am a walker and public bus rider too :)
But keep in mind that China is a bit different, no english spoken and written at all. Also many hotels in off the beaten track areas are not allowed to host foreigners bc no proper license. The best advice i can give you learn as much chinese and chinese characters as you can.
When you walk into shenzhen i can walk with you into some cool labour worker villages, under the bridge and to the jailhouse.

San Mao, thank for your advice. But i don't think I will be walking through that area. I wanted to travel more on the north, most likely east to west.

Garmen, I was planning to walk on the north, east to west. No specifics yet. I would be glad to receive any advice you have concerning the places I could walk through.

Hi Ryszard,

I can't speak Chinese nor read it (at least not yet), but I do love walking. If I read correctly you want to walk from east to west of China in 3 weeks?

Unless you walk very fast and plan to cover much more than 30-40km in a day, my guess you will still be in eastern China by the end of that interval.

Anyway, put me up to speed with what you have decided, maybe I can join you. Where do you plan to sleep?

Thanks,
Alex

I don't know if you know it already, but if you don't probably you will be interested in it.

It's this guy who walked from west to east during one year.
