Posted September 9th, 2012 - 9:16 am by from Stuttgart, Germany (Permalink)
Hello Kazakhstan travelers and Kazakhstanis!

Tomorrow I start my trip from Aktau to Almaty. I am planning to have stopovers in Aralsk, Turkestan and Taraz. Is anyone else taking this route or visiting one of this places during next days? Please contact me :-)

And has anyone recommendations about cheap accommodation and places worth to visit? In Aktau for example I want to see the underground mosques in Mangistau region. Who does how to do it?

Thanks for your help and I really hope to meet some of you!

I started in Aktau on 10th and plan to arrive in Almaty around 20th. I stay at each destination one or two days, the rest of the time I spend in trains.

Here's some more info on getting to the underground mosque of Beket Ata.

Another common stop on the way is the Aksu-Zhabagly nature reserve - get off at Tulkubas, between Shymkent and Taraz.

Thanks for the info. I've been to Betek Ata and it was amazing. Stunning landscape and very friendly pilgrims.

I thought about going to this reserve, but it is pretty expensive.

Right now I am in Aralsk. Hotel Aralsk is a mess: No shower in the room but nice little insect crawling on the floor. Next step is Turkistan, I hope I am more lucky with the hotel over there.
