Looking to meet new people :)
Posted February 23rd, 2013 - 8:36 pm by from Gent, Belgium (Permalink)
Hi everyone!
I'm a 24 year old EVS volunteer, moved to Ghent recently, originally from Holland :-)! Unfortunately, the organisation I'm working at doesn't provide much interaction with other people (only 1 other colleague is with me at the office usually), and while I have fun housemates they also have busy lives. So I'm looking to expand my social horizons a bit and meet some more people here.
I enjoy things like: exploring this city with other people (walking/visiting sights), getting a drink/going out, watching movies, the usual stuff really; and I'm a member of sport school escape if anyone is in need of a fitness buddy ;)
Let's see if we can get a few of us together for a walk around the city or a drink sometime :)

Hi Inge,

Welcome to Gent. There are about four, five activities every week in Gent group. You can follow them under the 'Upcoming Activities' title.

I have recently gave up following intensive Nederlands lessons, therefore I have more free time. Meeting you will be beneficial for my Nederlands!

I was looking for someone to watch together a Turkish film which is shown at Kinepolis : "The Butterfly's Dream"

Anyone else who wants to join is welcome.

Tot ziens.

Hi Çağdaş,

Thanks for your reply :-) I'm kind of new to couchsurfing, so I have to figure it out - but thanks for pointing me towards the upcoming activities title :-)

That movie sounds interesting - anyone else interested in watching it? :)

Oh, that place sounds really cool!! I love kitschy bars (and pink flamingoes) I don't know if I can make it tomorrow (work is extremely busy this week because we are organizing a speakers tour) but I'll definitely try, thanks for the invite :)

Hey Ines,

I'd love to meet up and casually hang out one day. Lemme know when your schedule gets cleared up a bit.

That sounds really nice :) Should we try to find some time next week or the one after that? :)

Hi,
I will make an event for The Butterfly's Dream.
The sessions are 16:30, 19:15 and 23:00. The film is 138 minutes.
I think 19:15 session will fit most people.
I want to know which day fits you best?

What about Sunday?

Hi Inge,

I would also like to meet new people in Ghent, I moved to Ghent 8 months ago. Would be great if we can have a drink with a bunch of CS'ers this week or next week!

Hello everyone
As someone I admire pointed out life is not about owning (things) but doing and being. I want to meet someone who too wants to enjoy what Gent has to offer and that for more than just one day. I was thinking about walking, going out, movie by one of us, library. I am well only available after 5pm for about a hour or two and only during the week. I have to wake up early, so I prefer not to stay till very late (like 2am 3am).
Greetings
Suresh

Hi! everyone!!

I'm belgian, originaly born in Ghent and raised in Ghent.
My girlfriend is spanish and sometimes she feels very lonely. She has allready some friends but its different then in Spain. So first of all i would like to participate in some next things to do, i can also guide some people around if they like!

I go every day to the gym, it's called jim's and its very cheap (they are building a new one in overpoort street).

So i will follow this thread , but otherwise, contact me for party, guiding , sporting or just hanging around!!

Hi Inge and everyone,

Wouldn't it be an idea to organise a "newbie drinks" some time soon? Of course it'll be open to everyone, and above all it's just about having a good time together no matter if and how long you're living in Gent.

But I've always thought it could be nice to have a meeting where newcomers in Gent are particularly welcome, meet each other and exchange tips and ideas etc etc...

Let me know what you all think!

BTW, I'm also from Holland and live in Gent for almost a year now.

Ok, I just want to thank everyone who answered in this thread and apologize that I haven't been very active in spite of my original post - a lot of things came up and as a result I had to spend a lot of time back home in Holland. But, I'll keep an eye out for some easy going event and I'll join in - alternatively I'm still (or: AGAIN) up for a drink with some people (I like this idea of a newbie drink :) ) or a walk around town etc. etc.! Look forward to meet you all ;) :)
