Hi everyone! :)
First with the introductions ^_^
I am Jennifer from Malta - software developer for 8hrs a day, and the rest it revolves around photography and cooking :) I am very interested in photo journalistic pictures (capturing the moment, even negative ones) and also portraits.
In case you would like to take a look here's a link to my Flickr account:
I was hoping that someone would take me for a photowalk to what Istanbul away from Taksim square really is - somwhere perhaps more traditional looks and people. I am currently doing all the touristic stuff like Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque etc. :) I am currently based in the Taksim area so perhaps we could meet somewhere here.
Anyone care to join or maybe suggest some places / directions? :)
I know what u mean... and u should visit anatolian side. Actually me and my greek street musicians are heading to anatolian side today... you are welcome if u wanna join and tomorrow we will go to Prince's islands and the most pure place and people u can see in istanbul. some special spots i had found...
will send you the phone number as PM
By the way i am a photographer too and got my 5D MK2 just new after 500D ;))
So Join the gang
Hi Jennifer, actually there is no "traditional look" and "traditional people" if thats what you mean traditional is like sellers (such icecream sellers) with fes on their head and red clothes with shiny golden motiffes on it. But Istanbul is a big city and you can see totally different kinds of places and kinds of people. I can advise you to try for anatolian side, princes islands, and if on european side check for Balat, Fatih regions, also make a seaside walk around Bebek, Hisar. If you have transportation check Garipce village at Sariyer. But I have to warn you that these things will take long time. Sadly I have a shooting tomorrow and cant join the fun. Good luck with the photos!
Thanks for your reply Ibrahim - I've just sent you a PM.
Thanks for your suggestions Ozkan - of course I didn't mean guys with turbans and stuff like that, but a place which is more traditional and authentic, with less tourism :) I will be here till 1st October - it would be great if we could meet some other day instead of Monday. I'm available in the morning and early afternoons. So please feel free to contact me if you're free on any other day.
Princes islands we're most probably going tomorrow! :) Really looking forward to that! ^_^ Yippee!
Firstly Welcome to our lovely and little bit crazy city Istanbul. I agree with other guys that even you can find many different things in the city, there is not a specific location for authentic off-touristic places.
Best part of this is the things you want to photography might show up behind a regular corner :) it is a perfect city for a photographer.
if you have time just take a look
I loved to join you guys on Monday but its quite impossible for me due to work :(
have fun in advance
