Vegetarian Potlucks and more
Posted December 9th, 2009 - 12:29 am by from Buenos Aires, Argentina (Permalink)
I am a trained raw vegan chef from the EEUU who now lives and works in Capital Federal doing other things (writer, website designer, personal chef, etc.).

Although I am no longer a full time vegetarian, I am interested in hosting periodic (probably monthly) vegetarian potluck dinners in my apartment. I have a wonderful private terrace of about 150m2 that can comfortably seat about 20 people and can host up to about 35 if they prefer standing around.

I was wondering if there is any interest among this community in such an endeavor. I already host a weekly cocktail party, Drinking Liberally, on Thursdays which has been wildly successful.

And I'd love to know about that Drinking Liberally thing too haha.

Well, I am by no means a vegetarian...yet. though too much time here in Bs As is pushing me towards it. I agree with Enrique a Sunday evening sounds quite nice for potluck on the terrace!!

Pablo, i saw another post of Samuel in another group and he said that he is going to start the veggie meals on january.
So i think we have to wait until he arrange that or put on contact with him to talk about it and help him in whatever he needs to make it.
:D
Later i will send him a pm

Posted December 20th, 2009 - 10:49 pm by from Beijing, China (Permalink)
If I'm still around I'm interested too

I just sent Samuel an email to ask him to tell us here a bit more here about the plan(s) ;)

Posted December 21st, 2009 - 11:06 pm by from Buenos Aires, Argentina (Permalink)
Sorry about that. I was unaware there was so much interest in this thread. I would like to start the second week of January if at all possible. I cannot do these potlucks on Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays but any other day of the week is great.

I guess I need feedback in two areas:

What day of the week is best for everyone?
Do you want this to be weekly, bi-weekly or monthly to begin? (I was thinking every other week might be best to start for instace the 2nd and 4th _____day of each month.)

Posted December 22nd, 2009 - 1:50 am by from Buenos Aires, Argentina (Permalink)
IN + 1 :)

Posted December 22nd, 2009 - 2:16 am by from Beijing, China (Permalink)
Thanks for your quick answer to my email and post Samuel :)

I do think that bi-weekly, as a start, would be a good idea, so people who wouldn't be able to assist to one event or are looking forward to the new one would be able to do so, and it doesn't vanish

I believe that any day is fine for me, let's see what others have to say ;)

David :)

From perusing the comments posted so far, I suspect that some people are only available on weekends and others during the week.

So maybe one thing to consider would be something like a twice a week schedule with one day during the week and one on a weekend?!?!

Posted December 22nd, 2009 - 5:41 pm by from Buenos Aires, Argentina (Permalink)
Sorry, I meant a twice a month schedule with one being a weekday and one a weekend.

for example the second Tuesday of the month and fourth Sunday......

Posted December 22nd, 2009 - 5:50 pm by from Amsterdam, Netherlands (Permalink)
Both sounds nice to me. Count me in

Posted December 22nd, 2009 - 7:48 pm by from Buenos Aires, Argentina (Permalink)
Samuel u mean 05/01 and 24/01?

Posted December 22nd, 2009 - 9:24 pm by from Buenos Aires, Argentina (Permalink)
I plan to start the second week of January. I am just waiting on some sort of consensus on the schedule.

It would appear that starting out with the dinners 2 times a month is going to be best and I suspect doing it once during the week and once during the weekend would satisfy the greatest number of people.

So I just need some idea as to what days to host them on with one restriction: I am not available on Thursday evenings as I already host Drinking Liberally here.

I am in for Tuesday. I´m thinking of making brownies for dessert, and if I have the time, a dip called muhammara with roasted peppers, nuts, and pomegranate molasses.

And I agree, we need to put a disclaimer of some sort because I don´t think everyone realizes that a potluck dinner means that everyone brings their own dish to share with the rest. So I´m adding a small message in Spanish after this just in case.

Yes, I will be selling drinks at the Drinking Liberally rates. Bloody Marys are premium drinks due to all the ingredients. And mind you, the main thing is I am not in a position to give away drinks for free every week.

Contribution Schedule:

Well Drinks: 2 for AR$ 15
Premium Drinks: AR$ 10
Beer: 2 for $AR 12
Wine: 2 for AR$ 20
