Looking for hiking companions

I'll be in New Zealand in February and am looking to hike the Kepler, Heaphy, Mueller Hut, Ball Pass, Alpine Crossing and others. Just looking to meet some people that are heading that direction.

Hi Roman,

I have a similar idea, none of the Great Walks booked yet. I like longer challenging treks and less popular routes. For that reason it is safer and more fun for me to hike with at least one other person. This past year I hiked the entire Pacific Crest Trail, from Mexico to Canada.

I fly into NZ on Jan 30th and I'm considering catching a flight directly to Christchurch. Not sure which direction I'm headed afterward. I've been looking at the Stewart Island outer loop hike which seems pretty interesting and remote. What is your timing and plans?

Hey Meredith,

the Pacific Crest Trail must have been amazing!

I'm landing on Feb9th and was planning on heading to the South Island by bus or ride share fairly soon. Was thinking of going to Mt. Cook area first, but nothing is set in stone. My general plan is to hike for about 2 weeks in the SI and then go surf in the NI.

How long are you in NZ for? I'm heading back on Mar7.

Hi Roman,

So I booked a flight from Auckland to Christchurch on Feb 3rd. I will be heading up to Kaikoura with a friend for a few days, and from there the plans are in the works. I am in New Zealand until May 7th. I won't be getting a vehicle, I plan on hitchhiking and busing around. I'm interested in camping more than hut hiking because I already have all the equipment on my back, and I like to sleep outside. Most of the hut tracks have campgrounds, but sometimes they are not in the same locations as the huts, maybe an issue, maybe not. Keep in touch and maybe we can take on an adventure together!
