Some advices for our trip in Mongolia
Posted April 9th, 2013 - 3:12 pm by from Bordeaux, France (Permalink)
Hi !

We are planning a long trip (russia, mongolia, china, vietnam, laos, india, nepal, ...)

We want travelling by foot or public transport.
But we need some informations :

- is it possible to pass the boarder between Mongolia and china by foot? Where?

- is there autobus in Mongolia? Where can we find the plans?

- is it necessary to buy a gps or a map is enough?

Thanks a lot if you can help us for some of this questions.

Mylène & Fred

Hello there

You can't cross the border by foot. There will be small cars or jeeps. They will charge around 50-100rmb per person to let you cross the border in their car. There is a train from Zamiin Uud to UB will cost around 25000tugriks for 1 night train to UB. If you take a train from Erlian that will cost you around 60000tugriks (more expensive).
You don't really need GPS or map from Zamiin Uud. If you are traveling by bicycle or motorbike around Mongolia, you will definitely GPS and maps.
Just remember, local buses will only go to certain capitals cities. Not to the attractive site around the countryside.

Hope this helps.

I think we will try to take a train to pass the border.

Well, heard there's case of traveller crossing border with their leg though, few years back...

But as Meg said, they're very strict on the checking at the border, but still, it would be pretty much excited to cross the border with leg if possible. ;)

Anyway, there might be some way to do it if you really go and find out (i'm guess?), afterall, the purpose for traveller like us to travel is to experience different stuff and dare to try! (provided is safe to do so laaa~)

Btw i'll be backpacking alone to Mongolia this coming month of July, let's meet up if v got the chance! ;)

cheers,
-Ck
