Volunteers for a exhibition!!!
Posted July 18th, 2011 - 5:36 pm by from Arlington, United States (Permalink)
Hello everyone,

I am looking for volunteers to be Gallery Assistants on an unusual art exhibition. The BackPack Gallery is a non-profit performance gallery (really, really, non- profit! not like of those galleries who are non-profit but have money) The Gallery group will perform in three public location in NYC (front door of Guggenheim, MET, and MOMA) this Saturday, July 23rd form 12-4pm. Gallery Assistants will hang out with the artists, the director and the photographer and their job will be to introduce and welcome the public to the BackPack Gallery.

Must not be a shy person for this job. As a group we all perform dressed in black, anything casual will do, but if you want to dress up it is up to you. Sport and other articles of clothing with logos are not acceptable.

More info about the project is below. Check out the pictures in the website and see if you would to be a part of this project.

Kind Regards,
Heloisa Escudero

On July 23rd, the BackPack Gallery will perform its first exhibition in New York City. The BackPack Gallery is a mobile, interactive art instillation, in which roaming artists exhibit their work.

This exhibition is titled the “Front Door Tour.” It will visit the front door of three major museums in New York City. The gallery will feature art by Alison Kotin, Brian Stinemetz and Cyle Metzger. The three artists will exhibit their art and interact with visitors at the entrance of the Guggenheim starting at noon. The following location will be at the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The last stop on this tour will be the MoMA, where artists will be until 4pm.

Due to the mobile nature of the BackPack Gallery a Twitter account has been set up for location and time updates of the art performance. Visitors can search in Twitter for ‘backpackgallery’ and find its current location. Any visitors wishing to follow the gallery along to its different locations are welcome to stay and become an active visitor performer.

The BackPack Gallery is at its core, an interactive project. This project combines all areas of contemporary visual art into a performance where the gallery space is a sculpture that interacts with other environments, spaces, and viewers. The BackPack Gallery takes art out of confinement and into the public and mobile realm. Art and the artists come to the viewer. The gallery presents art in an interactive environment through video, site-specific installation, and performance art.

All the Gallery Units are equipped with gallery lights (which are operated by the viewer), a folder with artist’s info and CV/bio, guest & comment book, and magnetic doors that hold artist & gallery mission statement. Artist exhibiting in the BackPack Gallery are asked to participate in the performance by walking with their BackPack units.
