Myself & another CSer, Guilherme (see http://www.couchsurfing.org/profile.html?id=1K5YD5P) are heading to Somaliland around Sept 30th. Already got the visas in Addis. Would love to meet other CSers around. Also any suggestions on route/bus to take from Addis ? We will be heading to Djibouti or Yemen afterwards.

Wish I was still there, just returned from Sland a couple weeks ago. But you can take the bus from Addis to Dire Dawa and Harar and Jijiga. But when you leave you need a visa to cross anywhere else by land, so arrange that in advance, or else you'll definitely be flying out of Somaliland (Hargeisa/Berbera). Enjoy!

Hey,
I'm not around, but traveled the same route last year. Ethiopia -> Somaliland -> Djibouti to Yemen by boat. Let me know if you need some info. I guess it's not possible to go from Somaliland to Yemen directly (at least not by boat), as emzelee mentioned, organize your visa for Djibouti in Addis, there's no embassy in Hargeisa.

Benny, thanks for responding. yes, I would love to hear more about that trip from Djibouti to Yemen. how to organize it & how long does it take etc, and any tips/suggestions.

I already have my Djibouti visa. Was planning to get yemeni visa here in Addis, but the embassy is closed for one-week due to Id. So I will get my Yemeni visa in Djibouti, assuming they have an embassy there!

Any tips on what (not) to do in Djibouti ?

Got my visa in Djibouti too. The boat was leaving the same evening as I was later told, so I went back to the Embassy and they issued it immediately - very nice!
