Trekking through Somaliland next week!

Guess what? I'm coming to Somalia this week!

Somalia is such a fascinating federation of countries, it's so exciting to visit!

No, Somalia isn't scary at all. The people are truly kind, generous, and all so willing to sit down for coffee, drink, and welcome into their family for a night or two.

I'm gonna drop in at Hargesia, see the glorious monuments, and pay respect to Somliland's parliament!

Wrap myself in the Somaliland flag and give free hugs to the wonderful people! So exciting to teach you sign language and share stories of traveling through Asia, Africa, and America!

Maybe even snorkel in the Red Sea, where the beautiful red, orange, and yellow coral sway gently in the current.

What else to do in the glorious Somalia / Somaliland? Puntland?

At the end of June 1 week, trek back down south through the Horn to Kenya, camping out on the road or hitching a ride. Bless the Somalis! Anyone wanna come along?

Oh, how exciting it is to visit your beautiful country.

Who want's to meet??

Who wants to host?

Excitedly yours!

I strongly suggest you do NOT travel through Somalia and to Kenya. Is a dangerous for Westerners - probably the most dangerous place in the World.

You are right, Somalis are wonderful people and very welcoming. Sadly, however, the south remains lawless and allows criminal elements to take advantage of this. Kidnappings for ransom are common place, as ransoms are paid. If news of your travels reaches people, which it probably will, then there is a chance you will be kidnapped - particularly if you are travelling independently. I can't put this much clearer than that.

Feel free to travel to Hargeisa and Berbera - taking usual precautions - but I strongly suggest you then travel through the Ogaden (Ethiopia) to Kenya....and NOT Somalia.

Enjoy your travels, but don't take unnecessary risks.

Thanks for the heads up, Duncan.

Just bought a ticket from Addis Ababa to Dire Dawa, departing Tuesday, then its a minibus to to the border and on to Hargesia.

Also found out there's an Addis Ababa monthly CS event gathering on 6 June, next week Monday, so will try to make it back by then. After that, I can trek through the Ogaden Desert to Kenya.

Sound good?

PS gonna try to organize a Free Hugs Campaign in both cities.
