As I planed for a long time, I will finally come to Pakistan in Spring! I will recieve my Visa in my home country Germany, this should be no problem.
You can get a 90 days multiple entry visa.
My plan is to make an overland trip via Balkans, Turkey, Caucasus and Iran. Want to spend some weeks in Pakistan and then go to India, return to Pakistan and leave via Karakorum highway to China.
Well, that was the theory so far. I know you have three months to enter Pakistan and it will be still valid for 90 days. So as soon as I have it, I will go. It means I have three months to enjoy Balkans, Caucasus, Turkey and Iran. Not too bad, eventhough I could easily spend more time there.
Ok, let's say I get it on 1st of March, I could enter until around 1st of July and have great 90 days.
BUT now the problem. My idea was to spend 2 weeks in Pakistan (classic overland from Quetta to Lahore), 2 months in India and then 2 weeks again in Pakistan (Islamabad and Karakorum highway). But now I read that this visa validity is also for the second entry. This means my second entry also needs to be in the first 90 days after the issued the visa. What a nonsense. Of course this would be impossible and senseless rushing for me.
Can you confirm this, or was the internet source wrong? I don't think so actually, because it was from a very reliable website:
My question is: What can I do? Is there any chance I can extend the Pakistan visa somewhere to re-enter within the 90 days after I got my stamp? I could stay 90 days non stop in Pakistan, but not re-enter in this 90 days because of the first issue date, even I still have a double entry visa. Not cool.
Or do you maybe know an agency that issues invitations for Business visas? Don't worry, I am not asking somebody from here to get me an invitation ;)
But f.e. the tourist visas for Russia are only 30 days and Business one year, so it is quite normal that agencys offer this Business fake invitations. Of course for Russia the market is a little bit bigger ;)
Ok, long text, I hope my problem is clear. Also wanted to check Thorn Tree, but it is down because of some problems.
Thank you all! Friendship!
1st of June I wanted to write, not July :-)
Interesting situation indeed. I find almost all visa rules senseless but I have a feeling that what you have written might be the case, i.e. one has to renter within the initial 90 days, unfortunately. One way out might be to extend/alter your visa while in Pakistan. I believe it is easier once you are here. I would also go to the embassy - only after securing the visa - and try to get the initial 90 days extended to say 180 days. But very careful, they might not like you coming overland..
JAN D, Asking about visa rules from lay men is the height of stupidity, although it is the domain of the concerned embassy.
Tell all this travel plan to the Embassy. Take as much documentary evidence as possible, so they'll know you're a genuine traveller with genuine travel plans. I'm sure they'll coperate as much as they can. The problem you mentioned is understandable, they will do something to solve it, maybe they'll give a six month multiple entry,
Thanks for your help!
I know they don't like overland travel, especially from Iran and Afghanistan of course.
But I can f.e. work in Turkey for some months, then fly to Pakistan, fly from there to India for some weeks and go back to Pakistan for the Karakorum Highway (this is always promoted in a tourist way). I guess I will just try to ask the embassy.
@ Nafis: No need to insinuate I am stupid. I did not even doubt the rules of the embassy, but as there are people here who had contact to travellers in Pakistan and also foreign travellers themselves, maybe somebody ever witnessed a similar problem OR has been here with a business visa OR extended the visa and knows the conditions for that.
@ Hafiz: You have a cool blog! :)
I agree with you Hafiz really have a cool blog :)
Jan Dreseke ..i believe there are many things which can happen even if they are not on blogs and websites you are refering ..a friend of mine from Montenegro, whom i provided the Letter of invitation, succeeded to get her Visa extended sitting in Pakistan last month..so i am sure that you will find a way too..and dude you wont be a adventerous traveller if you dont come overland ..everybody can fly ..but the charm in overland travelling you will definietly gonna miss it ..people are still coming from the borders ..so you have to do it ..in case you want the reference i can provide you the names and profiles of people i know who came from iran border to Pakistan in last few months ..you are welcome here in Pakistan ..be my guest anytime ..i will do my best to assist you in any city of Pakistan :)
I agree with you for 100 percent...what I wrote before with flying is just an example of what I could tell the embassy, because when they figure out I am coming overland I will not be their best friend anymore.
I dreamed so long to do it overland! Thank you so much for your offer to help and be your guest. I will be :)
Maybe you can send me a message with the profile of the guy from Montenegro ? Also beautiful country on my way!
i hosted a britsh girl too ,her visa was expired and still she was spending a nice time here ..ask her too how did she manage to do that ..i will send the links in your inbox
Hello Jan !
I just left lovely Pakistan after 3 months this morning. I only had a 30 days visa that I exented thrice in PAK.
Once in Islamabad (Ministry of Interior), easy even if you have to go through some bureaucracy (and straitforward compare to what Pakistani can face) and twice in Chitral (DCO office).
Islamabad, had to pay 75$. Chitral, free.
possible to renew it in Gilgit too.
1) apparantly, there's a rule where not extension granting more than 3 months total stay is permitted. I wanted to stay more but they only gave me 13 days, totalising 3 months in the country.
2) you have a 2 weeks "periode de grace" to leave the country when you visa is expired. Confirmed by DCO Secretaire in Chitral. ie if you are stuck somewhere and cannot renew it, you shouldn't have any problems at the border...
I was supposed to experience it crossing to China by KKH but finnaly flew (KKH is closed due to some protests in Chilas).
Also, a friend of a friend with a multiple entries visa experienced some problems at Wagah border coming back from India. problems in terms of questionning why he has a multiple entries visa and why he left the country.
and ask the embassy to give you a 6 months-valid visa. This is the one I had and even if my 6 months-validity was over, they extended it.
so if you need more insights from a fresh fellow travelers, just ask me ! I'm not an expert but have a pretty good sense of what's going on around !
Thanks for this detailed message. I just read about the problems on the KKH, but also that it was re-opened. Actually I thought that at this time of the year you can not pass because of snow anyway.
I will just ask for a 6 months visa, it is just that the embassy in Berlin does not mention this possibility on the application.
It is in English, written at the bottom. That's also the reason why I thought about Business visa, but now the most famous travel agency to provide LOI for Pakistan wrote me they have no offers for that.
So in the end I will just apply for the visa I can get and when I am in Pakistan I will see what I can do. In the end it should be an adventure and not planed like a week in a tourist resort :)
