Swedish female looking for jobs in the environmental sector in Melbourne
Posted July 28th, 2013 - 12:55 pm by from Lund, Sweden (Permalink)
Hi everyone,

I am a 25 year old Swedish female with nature conservation as my profession, and I am currently looking for jobs in Melbourne from mid-August to the end of November.

I’ve been working as a junior consultant for the United Nations in West Africa and recently came back from an assignment in Ghana, supporting a project in wildlife protection and sustainable management of natural resources. The aim of the project was to build wildlife corridors between protected forest reserves to facilitate the elephant movement across the landscape. In addition to a Master’s degree in Physical geography and Ecosystems analysis, I have taken courses in project management. During my university degree I lived in Australia for a while, studying at the University of Tasmania as an exchange student, taking classes in sustainable land and water management and surveying/measurement techniques. Prior to Australia, I went to Kenya to help an NGO with mapping deforestation in the western part of the country, using satellite images and GIS. The NGO works with tree plantations and training of local farmers in agroforestry practices and climate change adaption, and the final report was used as a decision support to expand their field activities to a new area in western Kenya.

Thanks to opportunities for my boyfriend in Melbourne, I am moving there with him in August. Since I have a passion for conservation projects, I would love to get involved and help out with similar kind of work in Melbourne during my stay. I am very fond of Australia’s nature and would find it incredibly rewarding to contribute with my experiences to projects in the environmental area, no matter how small or large they may be. I am comfortable with different kind of tasks such as guiding groups of people, educating school kids, planning project activities, carrying out field work, using GIS for map production, administrating workshops, putting together project documentation etc. I am flexible with working load, everything from a few hours a week to full time would be of interest.

Please don’t hesitate to send me a message if you know of any organisation/office in Melbourne which would be interested in having me work for them. All tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

Kind regards,
Naemi
