Hi Justin! I've just booked a vacation rental in the Hong Dae University area through wimdu.com. It costs $60/night. But there are some cheaper rental options in that site. You may also try roomorama.com. Best of luck!

Hey Justin,

I'm also going to visit Seoul this year, so I have pretty much done a research on that. If what you mean is a room (single or shared) in a guest house, there are plenty and in really good prices too. So it depends on your destinations. But yes, Hongdae area sounds really fun because it's in the university area so all fun things must be within reach.

The reliable ones would be listed in visitkorea.or.kr under accommodation page.

Have fun planning your trip!

Hi Justin,

Actually, the possibilities are "No Limits" you can try with :
http://korea-homestay.com/
If you are ready to shell out a lot of money (= more than 100 $ per night) type "Hanok stay in Korea" on any search engine (Google, Yahoo, Bing...) and choose where you want to stay (I would say that you will enjoy "Myeong-Dong" district in the City Center) exactly in Seoul.
If you are looking for accomodation in a Korean "swanky" Hotel I would recommend "Lotte Hotels", rates begin @ around 250 $ per night...
Korean people are friendly and welcoming, thus you can just ask CS members to host you for a few days, since it's "free accommodation" then you can shell out a lot of money in coffee shops, bars, restaurants, night-clubs, etc...
Don't fool yourself, life is not really cheap in Seoul, in particular Beer and Coffee are more expensive than in New York City, even in the Upper East Side, Ha Ha Ha No Kidding!!!
The best of luck!

I just got information from my friend about renting room:

This place only cost 10.000 won/day/person. & 15.000 won/day/person
Facility: internet and a bed & shared bathroom.
The located in in downtown line 1, Daebang station
10 minutes to Youngdeongpo station or Yongsan station by subway
20 minutes to Insadong by subway
20 minutes to Myeongdong & Dongdaemun by subway
and cost 6000 won from Itaewon by taxi.

This place is more like a house than a motel.
The only negative thing about this place is the wall is thin, that's all.

If you need detail info, message me, I will give you her phone number.
