I lived in Budapest for a semester, and I spent a lot of time in the Kalvin Ter area. I love Fecske Presszo, an eatery on Baross Utca right off of Kalvin Ter, and Praga Kavehaz right next door is a wonderful place to enjoy an espresso. Gellert Hill has great paths, and if you climb to the top (a half-hour walk) you'll have a great view of the city. My favorite restaurant is Vapiano at the end of Vaci utca near Vorosmarty Ter. Great Italian food and great atmosphere. :-) I hope you find this helpful!

Which kind of museums are you interested in?
You can find all kinds of museums in Budapest (Hungarian National Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Hungarian National Gallery, Museum of Applied Arts, Memento Park with statues from communism etc.), just look at this website: http://www.museum.hu/index_en.php

There are many good theatres and some art cinemas too in Budapest but most theatre performances are in Hungarian and also movies are often dubbed. Merlin International Theatre plays in English (http://www.merlinszinhaz.hu/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=27&Itemid=23&menuid=szinhaz_eng).
You can check the program of art cinemas here but the page is only in Hungarian: http://www.artmozi.hu/
