Chinese New Year Parade - Year of the Dragon
Posted January 13th, 2012 - 6:23 pm by from Surrey, Canada (Permalink)
Hi pple,

The time has come for the Chinese New Year celebrations again.

The Chinatown Chinese New Year Parade starts at 12noon, but as with last year's experience, there will be a huge crowd of people standing to see the parade. If you go there only at 12 noon, you are going to be standing behind rows and rows of people and end up seeing very little stuff. So this year, we are going to try and make it earlier.

I'm proposing to meet at 10:45am at the Taylor Street and West Pender exit (of International Village Mall). We will ONLY WAIT 15 MINUTES for latecomers maximum. After that, we will proceed along the route of the parade to get a good spot for viewing.

You can read more information about the parade at http://www.cbavancouver.ca/parade.html

The route can be downloaded here: http://www.cbavancouver.ca/map.html
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't rain this year.

For some pictures, you can read and take a look at what we did last year :p http://www.couchsurfing.org/news/article/104

After that, we can go and have lunch at some place nearby (or maybe even the same restaurant we went to last time).

Sorry that I posted this only now.. I have to make sure that I can get time off work to do this :p

Please pm me if you have further questions. I can also be reached at 604-240-6615. It will be very noisy at the parade because of the huge number of crowds and lion dance music.. so if I don't hear you calling, just send me a text message.
