The Laramie Project at Temple U, 4/1
Posted March 30th, 2010 - 2:52 am by from Philadelphia, United States (Permalink)
Hey Everybody,

First, let me introduce myself as a Temple student who's very excited to meet other TU couchsurfers!I hope this message finds everyone in great spirits! Possibly activist spirits? The Laramie Project, being performed by Temple Students at the university, will be protested by the Westboro Baptist Church from 6:30 -7:15 pm on April 1st - the day of its opening.
Up until yesterday, those involved with the show (including myself) had a peaceful counter-protest planned that prioritized the safety of Temple students and that diminished the dangerous possibility of student retaliation. However, due to an unfortunate series of events, this counter-protest fell through.
So, myself and many others are organizing an impromptu counter-protest that would accomplish the same goal via a human chain between the WBC and the student population (as well as peaceful, loving, supporting signs and the like.)
I'm contacting you guys because, I wanted to let you know about the show's performance at both 4 and 7:30 pm at the Temple Student Center Underground (free event) but also to see if anyone would be willing to volunteer in the human chain. The Temple police has disqualified Temple students as possible candidates for the human chain, so we're looking for anyone who's interested in the show, believes they can withstand the WBC and quietly provide a peaceful barricade and example for the rest of the campus.
I'll end this long message by thanking everyone for their time, wishing them well and noting that any interest in volunteering can be directed towards TemplePurpleCircle@gmail.com with the subject "Human Chain"
Thanks again guys!
