Winter time day hike
Posted January 20th, 2011 - 9:00 pm by from East Brookfield, United States (Permalink)
Looking for a good place to go, and perhaps a group to go with for a day hike in the next few weeks Sundays and Tuesdays are generally the best days for me. I know the weather has been bad, but I am getting a case of cabin fever. Anyone else up for it just let me know or if you have suggestions on where to go let me know.

Blue Hills is a nice spot to go for a hike around Boston. I went there twice with Appalachian Mountain Club. I think I might go for a 6-7 mls hike there next weekend, if the weather is good

Nice should be fun. We should try and get a little group together, I am sure it would be a blast either way, but maybe we can get a couple other people from cs.

Posted January 26th, 2011 - 5:08 pm by from Boston, United States (Permalink)
Hey guys!

I'd love to join you. I don't have much experience it's something that I really want to get into!

Posted January 26th, 2011 - 8:18 pm by from Boston, United States (Permalink)
that would be great Imoani! we should organize a nice group for a long, sweet, satisfying hike.
no worries: I am not a "professional" hiker either. If we enjoy the hike and each other's company - maybe we could turn it into a good tradition and chose different trails in Massachusetts once or twice a month. I have a couple friends highly interested in doing it, not from CS however.
In any case, I am afraid this weekend will not work for me unfortunately. with the recent weather forecast it wouldn't be the best idea, we shall postponed for later I think.

Ok well keep me posted as to when you want to do it. I am pretty much always down I might try to find a day hike to get out of the house. I have some friends that would most likely be interested in going as well. I don't know that many people up here, but the ones I do know seem to be the outdoor type people so we could get a pretty cool group together I think.

I'd love to get some hiking in around Boston. If there is a group of people still interested in hiking next weekend, I'd be interested in tagging along. If I don't have to work, then count me in.

As of right now it looks like Sunday Feb 6th is the most likely date for right now. This looks like it's going to be a pretty good size group should be quite a bit of fun.

Well I know I started this thread and hate to possibly be backing out, but sunday the 6th is the super bowl lol.. I totally forgot about it, but anyway game starts around 6:30 so if we do an earlier hike that might work out ok.

Hi guys. I have an opposite problem: working on Satd. night till 2 am, so won't be able to get to Blues before 10-30 am. i use public transport.
so lets see what time suits each one of us better and then we can decide if 6th is a good day....

Humm... I live in Somerville and might be able to give a ride to someone.. As far as I know I'm going by myself.
Question, do I need special shoes for this kinda hiking?
Sorry.. I'm new to winter hiking..

6th probably suits me best! but also flexible. I'm only getting my boots new too Monique! We'll be beginners together :)

Posted February 3rd, 2011 - 3:39 am by from Munich, Germany (Permalink)
I'm flexible too. How long will the hike be? And how far from Boston is it? As it gets dark at around 5ish I don't see a problem at being home for 6. I mean we can't hike in the darkness (or at least I wouldn't recommend...). I think if it's a short hike we could leave at 10:30 and be back at 6... But I don't know anything about the trip you've planned. Who knows the details?

hey guys: my friend, who I'm hopping will be showing us Blue Hills (he's been hiking there many times: u can find his videos on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_686V79n29E )is saying that it would be way too difficult to go hiking in a snow, without special snow hiking boots.
I was there only twice, but i know that trails there are pretty rocky, and now they must be covered with many inches of snow and ice. I cant picture anyone cleaning them out of snow. With another snow "storm" coming this weekend - my idea was to wait until the snow melts. We've got a pretty good-size group now, it will be so much fun. and no worries, I am not a professional hiker either, just an amateur. we are not going climbing, just walk the hills and enjoy the views.
so what do you think?

Anybody reckon that it's nearing a good time to get this hike up and running? :)

Posted March 9th, 2011 - 7:41 pm by from Boston, United States (Permalink)
I went to rocky narrows on march 8th. Its an excellent time to hike. Remaining snow is beautiful. Plz include me and my friend on your mailing list for hikes.

Since most people are in boston, i suggest boston arboretum as a hiking rondevu - as it requires minimal prep, has a lot of diverse terrain: trees, hills, lakes. and of course has asubway stop - forrest hills.

I'm always up for hiking, too! Did you all end up going last weekend? Now that the weather is getting nicer, hiking will only get better . . . actually, anyone up for trail running? I am super out of shape (haven't run all winter) but I think running on a trail is a bit more interesting than on a road.

Posted March 9th, 2011 - 8:47 pm by from Scottsdale, United States (Permalink)
I'd be up for it..am super out of shape too after the winter, but I'd enjoy a run!

Anyone interested in meeting up tomorrow (Sunday, 3/12) for something semi-strenuous? Maybe a long run through the Fens? Don't worry about pacing, we can make it a jog.

We could meet up at The Otherside Cafe...head southwest to the start of the Back Bay Fens park....and go as far as we want before looping back. Lunch at The Otherside to follow?

12PM.

Feel free to call me if you are a last-minute responder!
