hey there!

great choices there, I think Madrid can take 5 days, but 3 is perfectly fine to see the basics...

And cities around are just BEAUTIFUL, so good call there! :P
My usual recommendations are Toledo, Avila and Segovia.

About spending day and a half in Segovia... I'd advice not... I mean, yes, you can spend as much as you want there, but you will be seeing the same all over, since its fairly small! definetely worth seeing, but a day-visit is more than enough! exactly the same in all three I said before (even Avila, if you are not into eating, is good seen in 3 or 4h... If you like eating, have a good lunch there - best place to eat I'd say!).

Connections between Segovia and Avila... hm, that might be tricky! I've just checked for you the bus companies to operate that -> www.avanzabus.com There are bus connections, so you're in luck!

if However, you fancy the train better, connections by train via Madrid - Chamartin should not be a big pain (there are fast trains every hour to/from Segovia, in 30mins you're there), and Avila is a little over 1h in slower train...

Also, trains to Toledo are every hour, half an hour train ride! and wonderful medieval city! google it, and check if you fancy it.

So, in short: doable! dont spend over a day in any! If you are brave enough, do morning + lunch in avila, afternoon + evening + night in segovia, p.e....
And in any case, have fun! the places are great!
