Italian / English Conversation Anyone?
Posted April 9th, 2013 - 12:18 pm by from Melbourne, Australia (Permalink)
Ciao!
I would like to start a conversation group of Italian/English speakers/learners...who's interested?

I am studying Italian, and would love to teach English as another language one day. My Italian conversation ability is poor :( and there is only one way to improve it...to speak to Italian speakers! I can't afford a trip to Italy right now, so next best thing? Couchsurfing community!

Let me Know,
Maurni

Ciao ;)

Thanks for your interest, Marco :) Hopefully, the group will grow and we'll make some plans! Vediamo...e benvenuto a Melbourne!

Ciao Maurni! Buona idea! Mi piacerebbe parlare più italiano con un gruppo. Ho fatto lo scambio in Italia qualche anno fa, pero ho dimenticato tantissismo. Non ho molto tempo libero, ma se suggersci qualcosa cercerò di venire.

Make that 6!! This will be fun. If everybody could give me an indication of availability, we can get something organised. I think maybe Carlton would be a good starting point? Any suggestions?

Carlton would be great - central location, authentic Italian vibe! Perhaps Sunday afternoons would be a good option? Otherwise Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings work for me.

Amy :)

Sunday would be good for me, or Tues evening or Friday. I guess to just get the first off and running, then we can make arrangements for the next one when we meet.

What says everyone else? Che ne pensate?

Sunday sounds good to me :)

Posted April 11th, 2013 - 11:43 am by from Melbourne, Australia (Permalink)
Then lets make it Sunday afternoon and hopefully the others can come along? any time suit? Maybe 2pm or 3pm, somewhere in Lygon St...so many to choose from. Suggestions?

2pm sounds good to me! As to where, maybe Cafe Tiamo? It's just near Readings. Or we could just meet on a corner and find somewhere that looks good. :)
Amy

So.. waiting to hear back from others...I like Tiamo, or we could meet outside Readings and move from there.

...A presto :)

Posted April 13th, 2013 - 3:24 am by from Melbourne, Australia (Permalink)
So, 2 votes for Tiamo, let's lock it in...I'm definitely up for this, even if no one else is replying. Although I think later is better for me now, does 3pm work for others as well?

Posted April 13th, 2013 - 9:50 am by from London, England (Permalink)
3 PM is ok for me!

Posted April 13th, 2013 - 11:37 pm by from Melbourne, Australia (Permalink)
OK, so there'll be 3 of us at 3pm at Tiamo's today...see you there and if anyone else is free, join us :)

I can't make it today guys, but I'll try to make it to the next one. Enjoy!

Thanks for today guys :)
Any suggestions for a place in the CBD for next week, then I'll create an event. And are Sunday afternoons ok for everybody?
Cheers,
Maurni

I can't think of anywhere in particular in the CBD...all the cafes I go to are on Degraves st and would be much too loud. Anyone else know a good place?

Yesterday was great - thanks Maurni and Paolo - and it would be fantastic if more people could come.

Amy :)

Thanks Matthew, we'll be meeting in Carlton again this Sunday as it suits most at the moment. The location could change according to interested people and where they all live. Stay posted, if you can make it, it would be nice to see you at Tiamo's :)

Not sure if anyone is planning on going to the cafe today, but I cant make it, sorry. I hope to make another event soon...maybe a weeknight for drinks would be better? Any suggestions most welcome - I would really like to get this up and running...could be so much fun :)

Ciao, a presto

Ciao a tutti!

Are these meetings still taking place? 'cause I've just moved to Melbourne after a year and a half in the UK (teaching Italian...) and I would love to join - even just for the opportunity of getting used to the local "aussie" accent :))
(in Italian I would have said "farci l'orecchio" - now how would you translate that...?!)

Cheers!

Ciao Michael,
It was a regular thing, but only 3 of us and our only Italian moved to Sydney!
It would be good to get it started up again...lets see what happens.
Some renewed interest now is a great thing.
I'll make an event, stay posted!

Ciao!
Do you know a good place in Richmond? I think it would be ok. Top Paddock is a good new cafe on Church st south of Swan st I think. And I am flexible with time....

How about the others who are coming? Would you prefer Richmond or Carlton?

By the way, I have created an event if you want to add your name to it. It is called Italian/Australian conversation (I think)...I think it is visible on the home page.

We will need a decision as to location so I can change the details of the advertised event though.

It would be great to have some more people....especially Italians :)

Ciao ciao!

Hi Katia...I didn't get notified of these posts, sorry I didn't reply sooner. So lets get this conversation happening again. I can't make this Sunday but the following is ok for me. I believe 'farci l'orecchio' would be the same as 'to give a wink', but we might say 'wink, wink'...;)

Posted April 10th, 2013 - 10:57 am by from Melbourne, Australia (Permalink)
Ciao Maurni,

I am in the same position as you - would love to speak better Italian, but my current conversational ability is poor. I have some English teaching experience, and am studying to become an ESL teacher professionally, so I'll be able to help out any Italian speakers looking to improve their English as well.

Let's get this happening!

Amy :)

Hello everyone!

I'm Italian and i'll stay in Melbourne for another 2 weeks. If you'll organize a meeting at a cafe or something before i leave i'll be more than happy to help with your italian! :)

Ciao Heather...it would be great to have your company and expertise for sure :)
At the moment, I am not sure of the venue - negotiating between Carlton and Richmond. Stay posted. I will sms you when the final arrangements are made. It will be sunday afternoon
Ciao, a presto!!

Ciao a tutti!

I would prefer Carlton, but I'm fine with Richmond as well, if it suits you all best.

A domenica!

I guess it's up to me to make a decision then!

I suggest we meet in Richmond this week. With a conversation group the amount of people is more important than the place.
So lets meet in Richmond and then we can discuss future meetings and location together.

Now to decide on a place....if anyone knows a bar or cafe that would be suitable, post it here. I will ask around too. By tomorrow afternoon, it will be organised :)

It would be great to make this work....if anyone has any Italian native speaker friends, bring them along!

Ciao!
