German language learners: Beginners and intermediate
Posted April 16th, 2013 - 1:09 pm by from Melbourne, Australia (Permalink)
Guten Tag! I am considering hosting regular meet-ups aimed at absolute beginners to the German language. If you have always toyed with the idea of learning a new language but are not sure where to begin, this might be a start. You will be introduced to audiobooks and courses by Deutsche Welle, Paul Noble, Michel Thomas, plus other resources like eBooks, comics etc. I will provide basic notes, cheat sheets and tips on vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar to help newbies get started. Of course you’re more than welcome if you know German and enjoy helping others, or if you’re just looking to be social, drinks or make new friends.

Plan is to meet every fortnight: in the week between I will be attending other established language exchange events like Kathryn’s (join here https://www.couchsurfing.org/n/repeating-events/fortnightly-german-conversation-meet-up-melbourne-repeats) where you can come along and talk to a mix of beginners and proficient German speakers. Venue will be usually Chloe’s (Swanston St) or Hofbräuhaus (China Town) except when we are listening to audiobooks, watching German movies or tele-novels like “Jojo sucht das Glück” (http://www.dw.de/deutsch-lernen/telenovela/s-13121) then it will be at my apartment in Prahran. Expressions of interest welcome!

Hey Benedikt this sounds perfect. I really need natives to speak with as I've been teaching myself.

When is the next study class?
