Chi-Chi & Friends (Harlem Dinner Group) = Toast
Posted May 19th, 2009 - 12:45 am by from New York, United States (Permalink)
I just moved to 125th and Amsterdam, where latte meets fried chicken, and I'd like to meet some of my CS neighbors for bi-weekly dinners on Wednesday or Thursday nights. Most restaurants will be near Columbia or along the main drag, be moderately inexpensive (or downright cheap) and have healthy and/or meatless options (just a fair warning to y'all that the only soul food on the agenda will be Uptown Juice Bar). Since I'd rather have a few good friends than a lot of casual ones, and some of the places I want to try will be hole-in-the-wall spots with cramped seating, the dinners will be small with only handful of people (limited to the first 10 who RSVP to this meeting), to encourage the more personal and meaningful conversations that are often difficult in larger social gatherings. Since people's schedules and tastes will vary, I still hope to see a mix of both old and new faces!

The dinners that I organize are an effort to participate in the CS community and meet like-minded individuals who are open, broad-minded, and considerate people. If you would like an invitation to these dinners, please have hosted people - at least for coffee - (unless you're a newbie) and have AT LEAST a 50% or higher CS reply percentage. We all live in New York City and get a million requests a day. Someone asking for free couches from other people but can't take the time to reply “No, thanks, not at this time” to a potential surfer is probably not someone I'm going to get along with.

May 20th = Toast

Toast is "truckstop gourmet" and serves primarily burgers and sandwiches (there are several veggie options). They have a lot of draft beers (and wine and pint-sized cocktails). This week I'm starting the "dinner" earlier to take advantage of the 5-7pm Happy Hour.

Note: Optional $1 donation from each person who attends events I organize which I donate to CouchSurfing.
